I lot of people who dislike shonen have this misconception that all long running series are alike such as Dragon Ball or Naruto and thus give up on any potential great series that have great writing and character development such as Hunter x Hunter. I say to those who dislike shonen I do not blame you. However HxH isn't your typical shonen that tries to impress you with big fights and explosions but rather it gives you a well written and executed story and fights that are amazing because of what they symbolize.

Story & World - 10

The world in this anime is very creative and ... detailed allowing for complete immersion. This benefits the overall story as it allows the viewer to get completely dragged into the story and the world at the same time. The concept of Hunters is an exciting concept as it allows our main character to start his adventure. Hunters are people who travel and explore different aspects of the world and discover the unknown. This is a perfect combination for the world itself since the Hunter universe is well built and makes us want to see more of it. The concept of a Hunter allows for a reason to explore this beautiful world and see the unseen. The story is both light hearted and dark at times. Do not let its exterior fool you. This anime may look "happy" and "kiddy" on the outside but it can be just as dark as anime such as Attack on Titan at times. This anime mixes both light tone and dark tone elements together and I personally love both themes.

Characters - 10

Characters are equally as important when it comes to creating a masterful story. You can't have a good story unless you have engaging characters and the same can be said for vice versa. Hunter x Hunter definitely doesn't fail when it comes to creating complex and interesting characters.

The relationship between Gon and Killua is extremely well done. We see their friendship and bond strengthen throughout the series to the point where you begin to deeply admire their relationship. This is strongly influenced by Killua's past. This is one of the more heart-warming aspects of this series. The writer allows a great deal of insight into our main protagonists psychology through narration. This adds to the intensity and emotion as we see our character develop. This show has the best and most intense development I have ever seen in a shonen. Not just for a shonen but overall as well. An example would be the emotional physiological trauma we see one of our main characters experience. It is intense and shocking at the same time and will have you at the edge of your seat. We see Gon's innocence completely destroyed at one point and see a completely darker side to him.

Kurapika is also one such character who we get to see a darker side too. At the beginning we know he's hell bent on revenge but unlike some people (Sasuke) he's not willing to sacrifice his friends for it. At the beginning he's introduced as a clever and calculative thinker. Later on we see a completely different side to him in the eyes of his families killers. He becomes cold hearted and brutal. A truly disturbing aspect, one which will send shivers down your spine.

The side characters are some of the best and most exciting side characters a series can have. We have Hisoka the weird, pedophile who gets turned on by... even weirder things. The phantom troupe. They're incredible villains. However there's more to them than just being villains. They have a more complex psychology. Sure they "kill" and do bad things but it's the relationships they have with one another that sparks my interest about them. Along with each member of the troupe being very unique with very different personalities from each other. It's interesting to watch how everything plays out when they interact with each other. Their relationship is complex and you're not fully sure what to think of it. Do they care about each other? Or do they want to kill each other? These characters are only a few of the many interesting side characters we have in the show. I haven't even gotten to the Zoldycks yet.

Sound/Art - 10/10 MOVIE QUALITY

This is where Hunter x Hunter shines even brighter. The animation is consistently amazing throughout the series. Madhouse truly are to be thanked for this. This series wouldn't be as good if it weren't for the amazing execution and direction of each episode. The ost's are amazing especially in the chimera ant arc. If it weren't for the amazing ost's some scenes wouldn't be as impactful as they are. The openings and credit songs are amazing. They're very memorable and catchy and offer a sort of nostalgic feel because of how they're able to capture the series.

Overall - Masterpiece!

If you're looking for a great story and characters with a lot of shock factor and twists this is a perfect anime. The world and characters easily get you attached and there's a lot of shock factor because of the well done twists which will honestly leave you jaw dropped. This anime is also perfect if you're looking for something less cliche in the shonen genre and something unique. This anime easily impresses anyone who has a taste for artisticness when it comes to Hunter x Hunter. Hunter x Hunter is an art. Truly a rare and amazing gem.

I enjoyed the first half of SAO. The first few episodes introduce you to an interesting concept and after that we get to see the main character explore the world of Sword Art Online. However after the first few episodes this series quickly starts to fall down hill. Sword Art Online starts to undergo a lot of problems which undoubtedly makes it a badly written series.

The characters for one are poorly constructed. Kirito lacks any sense of character. He is bland, ridiculously overpowered (without balance either) and lacks any sort of personality that makes him likable. The author fails to characterize characters and there's ... an overuse of rhetoric to compensate for the lack of characterization. The story lacks any insight into the protagonist's psychology, possibly a lack of dynamic psychology. Kirito's reaction to his sister being attracted to him ("Oh, my sister has the hots for me? Mmmkay..."). There's no character development either throughout the whole series due to the ridiculous time skips throughout the series which detracts from the overall quality of the story.

This series lacks the ability to deconstruct the situation past the first few episodes. How's the protagonist feeling? How are the citizens feeling? They may be immersed in this experience, but surely there are people who failed to adapt, right? This series is an enormous waste of potential. The first few episodes were promising but ultimately ended up being a series which focuses on romance and pointless harem. This series lacks any respect towards female characters to show off Kirito the invincible. Kirito's field of influence that turns independent girls into dependent girls that overly rely on him is an example of the bad writing this series contains.

This series also fails to explain some of the most basic things such as why the big bad of the first arc decided in imprisoning 10,000 players to their death. ("1. Make cool game; 2. Trap Players 3. ??? 4.
Players Trapped!"). This just leaves us with a stupid plot hole. This series antagonists are basically just caricatured villains.

Sword Art Online is a prime example of bad writing. Sword Art Online story resembles a fanfiction written by a 15 year old girl than it does a story written by a professional writer. I could literally write 4000 words (easily) as to why this anime is bad. How this anime managed to garner such a large fanbase in the first place has literally left me speechless.

Kill La Kill is epic, funny, action packed, crazy, stupid, amazing and over the top. This series manages to make you cry, laugh till your guts hurt and surprise you while not taking itself seriously. Kill La Kill is an array of epic craziness which is what makes each episode so much fun.

The first 2 episodes made me drop this series at first. I found the series to be too eccentric and the fan service ridiculously over the top. Ironically these are one of the many things that made this series so much fun and unique. When the plot starts to get good and kick ... off it's things like these that make this series so great. After about 5 episodes I started to really like this series and accepted Kill La Kill for what it is.

This series seems like it has a simple generic plot. Don't let this fool you. It turns into something much more. The music in this series is epic and exciting. The characters are likable and everything is enjoyable. Kill La Kill is like a roller-coaster ride without the slow boring part at the beginning. The craziness kicks off right from the beginning. If you're ready for something crazy, fun and unique than I seriously recommend this anime.

The story is about a boy named Kenichi who's nicknamed "weak legs". Kenichi is often picked on due to his soft nature. The story doesn't seem like anything special at the beginning, however the story quickly starts to pick up and become exciting once Kenichi joins Ryozanpaku. After that we get introduced to a world filled with strong and interesting characters and obstacles Kenichi has to overcome. Through these tough experiences Kenichi makes friends, grows as a character and earns a reputation for himself. The way this series executes Kenichi's growth is exciting and well done. Despite the fact that Kenichi learns to fight for ... the purpose of getting these bully's off his back he manages to become infamous and gain the attention of even stronger enemies. I found it hilarious as Kenichi became more infamous the more enemies he defeated.

The characters are one of the best aspect in this series. Ryouzanpaku's masters each have distinct and likeable personalities. It's heart warming to watch Kenichi bond with his masters on a personal level and watch characters friendships form and strengthen with one another as they each go through hardships together. Once enemies but now friends. This is one of the reasons I love this series so much. Each of the voices for the characters suit them perfectly and do a good job at complementing their personalities.

The art is very colourful in this anime and the animation for the movements are well done. I personally love the opening and ending songs. They suit the series perfectly. I love feel good anime/manga which is why I like this series so much and the opening and credit songs do a good job capturing the feel of the series.

This series is really enjoyable if you like martial arts, comedy, great fights and friendship. I definitely recommend this if you're looking for a fun series with great characters and a good story.

I was not expecting this Manhwa to be as good as it was. The first half is slow and episodic but it quickly gets better.

The story is complex and is set in an interesting world filled with demons, ghosts etc. This is one of the first times I've felt so completely mind****** from reading a story. The story starts out vague but soon starts to make sense once you start to piece the story together as you read more of it. The world is filled with demons, ghosts and other creatures derived from Korean folklore. This makes each chapter exciting as the main character wanders ... through the country and constantly runs into these creatures. This Manhwa does something that so few manga or anime can do. Once you get into the story you're completely enveloped in the world and you just want to continue.

Characters are complex. It's completely impossible to understand the main antagonists motives and even more so what he's thinking without going deep into the second half of the story. This includes the main character as well. The main character isn't some cliché hero either. In fact he's more like an anti-hero. Throughout the story you begin to doubt whether he's even a good person. At one point he uses a dead civilian as his shield to block attacks. He's not some overpowered character with any special physical abilities. He uses his brains to get by and win battles with the help of an army which he summons through something called a Mahai.

One of the most enjoyable aspects in this Manhwa is its unpredictability. When reading a story or watching an anime you usually expect a certain outcome. I was always completely surprised and shocked by every outcome in this Manhwa. The plot twists in this Manhwa are great. After a while I completely stopped trying to guess what was going to happen because every single time I tried I was never even close to guessing right.

Due to the amazing art the action scenes are amazing. The art is breathtaking and probably the best art I've ever seen in a Manga/Manhwa. The art isn't anywhere near as good in the beginning however the art starts to pick up really fast.

If you like dark, gory and complex stories with a lot of mystery and action than you'll like this. However the story starts off a bit weak but it quickly starts to get better.
