Rewatching this film after having finished the Rebuilds and I see it in a different light. First of all, I would say that the Rebuilds are a sequel series to the original. Having the context and understanding of the original series is important to watching the Rebuilds, and cannot be as enjoyed without that context.

With that said, I think this is either my favorite, or second favorite of the Rebuild films. The shortcomings I see are all carried over from Eva (generally poor character writing, unexplained details, inane explained details), while much of what the movie does uniquely I see positively. The music is better ...

TL;DR: Boring and uninteresting. Not an enjoyable read.

Overall nothing was egregiously bad, but there were no interesting or redeeming factors either. There was no tension within the story (something which is very possible even w/ overpowered protagonists) and the plot was very predictable.

Art is bad. Not even up to the usual standard of crappy isekais. Characters were uninteresting and all just incredibly evil and malicious. There was no nuance to any of the characters, nor plot points. It felt like it was trying to parody the genre but the isekai genre is already a parody of actual good plots.

If you enjoy head-empty OP "stories" ...

This fucking sucks lmao.

Art looks incredibly generic, dialogue is weak, character designs are plainer than my oatmeal.

The backstory around his betrayal didn't get explained for 11 chapters, the logic behind his betrayers makes no sense... everyone is so unrepentantantly evil in this it's not even edgy it's just funny.

On the bright side, on the backdrop of murder, racism, slavery, and revenge, there is not any rape, rape goblins, or the like. So in that way this story gets points over Redo of Healer and Goblin Slayer.

Overall thoughts: don't read it, it's not worth it. If you want something "edgy" go read Berserk.

Art, animation, music are all fine to great. Story is kinda garbo. To avoid spoilers, genocide is viewed as both something that has to happen, and is a sad event for the one doing it. Characters' pasts are glossed over in favor of having a cohesive "hero" team, and somehow still the worst part is the ever increasing lore around Ymir and the Titans.

If you've been enjoying the direction that AoT has been going with a greater focus on magic and fate then chances are decent you'll enjoy this season as well (though god knows the manga readers didn't appreciate the ending). If you enjoyed ...

TL;DR: Generic cookie cutter fanfiction power fantasy exile/underdog/revenge plot. Not worth reading.

It's another Isekai-lite. Like sure the main character isn't from another world, but he has the complete lack of personality you would expect from an isekai protag. Honestly, for the first 10ish chapters this story felt like it had some connective tissue and plot, but then that was thrown out of the window with a rather idiotic decision from our MC. From there the plot is aimless, and then ends at chapter 18 to make you want to go read the LN or something. The story is set up like a revenge plot from ...

Faraway Paladin is an excellent departure from the norm for fantasy isekai stories. From believable characters and strong emotional beats, to solid worldbuilding, action, and magic systems. And to top it all off, Faraway Paladin features none of the squick that so commonly plagues similar isekai manga. While it's certainly not a perfect story, and there are always improvements to be had, Faraway Paladin is an enjoyable read to be sure.

Story: 8
the plot is quite solid, and the author makes solid use of foreshadowing. The first several chapters have more of a mystery vibe to them, while it transfers to a more broad-in-scope story later ...

Mixed Feelings
As TDPerrin states, in the description of a YouTube upload of this, "In case you've ever thought Evangelion was in dire need of an accompanying water show and a building upon which to be projected."

Hakata Angel Attack is pretty average. It's an eight minute short movie, but due to being projected onto a building wall, it's quite hard to tell what's going on at times. Art appeared to be mostly CGI. The story is only there to give each Evangelion something to do, and I cannot understand the dialogue, as I don't speak Japanese.

It has Sagisu's score, though!

Regarding the water effects, I don't feel they ...

It's fine. Nothing outstanding. Weirdly high amount of sex, for what I was expecting to be, well, not a manga with a lot of sex.

Story: Our MC sucks at talking, and the job industry doesn't like that. He joins a black magic company instead. Summons a succubus, and they fuck. Meets his boss to learn magic, they fuck. Only read 3 chapters, but there wasn't exactly a lot of *actual* plot in them. Just "plot". A group-tentacle-rape scene gets played for laughs, and that's kinda weird.

Art: it's not great. Switches between chibi, and not good not-chibi. Sex is censored by 'look, no genitals, kappa'.

Character: LMAO ...

It's bad. Not egregiously so, but nothing stands out as an actually good, or even average, element of the story.

Story: basically our main character is given the job Nobunaga. How? Because that's how the world works. Speaking of how the world works, there's no world-building for the conflict, little explanation behind our character's motivation, and absolutely no explanation to to how Nobunaga works.

Art: nothing impressive. Lots of white backgrounds, and not like the Bleach kind. Combat doesn't have any sense of weight to it.

Character: Very little. Our MC is cookie-cutter of a cookie-cutter, as is his elf best-friend.

Enjoyment: About average. Nothing stood out, but there ...

Drifters (Manga) add
Preliminary (83/? chp)
---MINOR SPOILERS---

Drifters! Apparently it's by the guy who did Hellsing, but I haven't read that yet, so I cannot comment on any similarities.

Drifters is really good. It's the best isekai that I've read, hands down. The characters are well-picked, and form a good mix between famous commanders and heroes (Nobunaga, Hannibal, Hijikata, Jeanne d'Arc), to lesser known historical figures (Toyohisa, Kanno, Anastasia). I read this with a friend who's a history buff, and had a pretty fun time learning about/researching each new character as they entered the story.

Storywise, Drifters *has* a story, albeit one that can be a bit hard to follow at times. ...
