Oh my goodness! Go watch Kuragehime right now. I'm serious, based on the first episode (which okay, I know isn't saying a *lot*) it is probably the best show this season, not exaggerating at all. I'm almost certain you'll like it as much as I did.

I am quite excited to have my mind blown by the second "remake".

If you don't mind I'd love to hear your opinions about the shows this season, once you've seen most of them :)

My thoughts exactly; I can't wait to see what anime he decides to reference now that I actually might get more of it than Eva :D. And yes, Genshiken could go on forever and actually continue to be good.

Also! I'm not sure it's mentioned in that news article but apparently the American girl who speaks in anime quotes returns as a main character :3 (she decides to go to school in Japan).

Who is the character in your profile pic?

Sigh, I am stunned that Satoshi Kon passed away today. That is just so incredibly sad :(

Omg. Omg. http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=250185

Eeeee! That's *better* than a sequel to Bakemono in my opinion, I've always wanted her back-story!

I hadn't either and then BLARGH. I literally spent like an hour on that one comment xD

Oh, certainly it is a combination of really really hard work, natural aptitude, and access to very carefully guarded knowledge. Haha, and thank you for reminding me how much I fail at talking about the intricacies of a show I haven't watched in a long time. Yeah, everything you just said was right, sorry xD

Yeah, there might /also/ be light novels, however the basis of both would be the manga considering it came first and the artist works by herself. I am reading her other major work right now (Saint Young Men) and she is quite good :D

Haha, no, you are so not crazy that I'm not completely sure it hasn't already been canonized. But if it hasn't, it /definitely/ makes sense, I had thought about it before as well... I wish we had more info on how Mari fits into all of this. She's such a wild-card and I am certain Anno wouldn't have added her unless she served a very significant purpose.

BLEH! I hate using MAL Comments to talk, I have now lost my entire comment *3 times* in 3 totally different ways, the last of which I had literally written the entire thing. :<

Yes, that is true. And I had said that so long ago that it's totally invalid at this point; obviously I caught on about the amnesia, the only thing that had thrown me off was the "twin" which they rather lamely explained the next episode.

Woah really? Awesome! I wonder if the library can get me access to them...

Haha, yes of course. And no, you are wrong on both accounts. From what I've heard they've adapted *maybe* 1/2 the Bakemonogatari light novels that are out and Arakawa is based on a manga series not a light novel series, and there's enough of it remaining that they've already announced a second season of the anime.

I'm sure Yoh may warm on me eventually. I don't like the element of his character that chooses not to do anything outside of improving as a Shaman because he can just use ghosts for it. His kind heart and willingness to help others is a wonderful thing as well as the affection he shows for his ghosts. I just want him to mature a bit and then I think I would like him much more.

I know that the characters are otaku stereotypes. On the one this is the first otaku story I have ever read so it may just be refreshingly different. On the other hand, even if they are otaku stereotypes they are not human stereotypes. I suppose it is sort of like how the hero is a stereotype, but the best hero characters are those who have unique traits about them even though they are fulfilling the role of a stereotype.

A good portion of what makes the Genshiken crew so entertaining is how the events are played out. I don't feel as if the comedy is gag or sketch driven. Every hilarious thing that happens is a by-product of the characters themselves. Kasukabe is believably violent. Madarame is so ridiculous and obsessive that his freak out when his freak out when he hurt himself is believable. I dislike when comedy feels injected into something to make it into comedy. The comedy in Genshiken always feels as if it comes from the situations the characters naturally get themselves into.

After reading the first volume of Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service and Shaman King here are my thoughts.

I really liked KCDS. The characters are colorful and unique, but done in a very believable fashion. I enjoy how each chapter is a one off story with its own twists and turns. The one off nature is also really neat because it allows for very unique plots. Everything from fatalistic love to obsessive serial killing to an actuary with the power to predict people's deaths. It is really fun and compelling to read.

I'll admit that I didn't love Shaman King. I was compelled to put it down after a few pages, but I decided that I had to read one volume or I wouldn't really be giving it a chance. It may just be a bit too zany for me to fall in love with it. Reading on was a worthwhile investment. I came to like Mata a bit more once he was further developed. I am kinda meh with Yoh. He isn't bad, but I don't love him. I wonder if he grows throughout the manga. That would make him more compelling. I am also super curious to learn some more of the intricacies of Shamanism in the series as a go further into it. Amidamaru is pretty damn awesome though. Bason could be too, I want his back story. The addition of Ren piqued my curiosity and made me really want to read a bit more to see what happens before making any judgements.

All things told though I still think Genshiken is my favorite manga so far. The characters avoid any huge archetypal stereotypes, so they really shine as each being a separate, unique entity. The plots are really well done. The art work is clever and attractive as well. For what it is worth, I find it to be absolutely hilarious. There is an amazing amount of humor built into the situations that the Genshiken find themselves in as well as what they say to each other and what just what they think/do. Very good choice for a fist manga. And congratulations on finding something that appeals to my strange and unique sense of humor.

What I am most excited about is getting into some of the CLAMP series, but the library never seems to have the earlier volumes of them. I told them to hold the first five volumes of xxxholic and Tsubasa when they get back in. I am a bit confused about Sakura from CC Sakura being in Tsubasa since animelist says that CC Sakura is related to Tsubasa at all.
