In my opinion, a good anime (or any type of storytelling) is one that's emotionally moving and captures your heart. One that has the "magic", if you will. Emotional attachment is first and foremost thing I look for in storytelling. I'm a strong believer in that the producers did something right when time flies while watching, and makes you craving for the next episode. My reviews will attempt explain why an anime series succeeded or failed to be engrossing.
I rate with a scale of 6-10 for series I enjoyed and 1-5 for those I didn't. Usually I drop unenjoyable series before completion without ever rating them. Since I rarely encounter art or sound that are so bad it's "unpleasant", most of series will have a positive score in those sections.
I was a fansubber for live action Japanese movies and TV drama series, now working on anime series. A casual anime viewer since I was a kid, but trying to watch more now. I tend to like mainstream stuff, but always willing to try new things!
Please do not add me as friend unless you have 150+ anime entries, 60%+ compatibility with at least 50 shared, or we have fansubbed together. All other requests will be rejected.
"bloody rice ball break after smashing vampire hearts, anyone?"
I lol'd... good review on Shiki. I was glad to see someone else felt the same as me about the series as I scrolled through dozens of 9-10 ratings on Shiki's review section.
Hi, I saw some of your reviews (Mawaru Penguindrum and Katanagatari). Anyway I've finished Katanagatari yesterday and I feel a bit mindfucked.
(spoilers for those that didnt watch Katanagatari)
-Whats your thoughts about that Togame had feelings towards Shichika, but she had to kill him? I mean, they had such a nice relationship that was growing trought series and then she said she would kill him after all. People keep telling she wouldnt, becouse she was loving him, she said that becouse she wanted to let him forget about her, or that she told him shes fallen for him after snake inside her died. But I am really not sure about this interpretation becouse its just people thoughts and in series they didnt clearly show us this point of view. I keep wondering what would happen if Togame would be still alive.
-Whats Your thoughts about Hitei (blondie princess)? She did ordered to assasinate Togame, but Shichika didnt harm her anyway. I do not understand this becouse I was too busy focusing on Togame death and Shichika going berserk.
I've gave to Katanagatari 10/10. I think story, artwork, sound, character cast it all deserves a maximum score. I would tell more about it but I dont want to write a review for you :P (mb I will do some reviews someday but I am not sure my English is good enough)
I see you did enjoyed Elfen Lied as well. Its pretty much hated by many people. I remember watching openning of this. It was Oh fuck this bell sound at beginning is pretty creepy.
(spoilers for those that didnt watch Elfen Lied)
I find in this series two strange things:
-hey there is a naked girl on the beatch with horns with blood on her head and she looks like she have down syndrome becouse she can say only one word. WOW LETS TAKE HER HOME XDD (I do think its some kind of plothole but I dont really mind this and I dont hate it, I rather find this funny)
-Well ending was a bit confusing, Lucy suicides but then she showed up near Kouta's house, I was really relived that she is still alive and I knew they wanted to do a happy ending but I belive they could do it better way.
Well I just like to have some discussion cuz I usually feel bad if I dont chat with someone on MAL. Looking forward to your reply ;)
Would you happen to be the same 8thSin that does translations? I remember reading a review you did about Chihayafuru season 1. I was not aware until just now that you were a member of MAL. I saw your review of Bakemonogatari and I had to agree with you on it. What a remarkable story. I've enjoyed all 3 titles I've watched in that series now. I look forward to Kizu and season 2. Thanks for the review.
Hello.
Roriconfan asked me to link you two of his videos. I hope you don't mind, and my apologies if you do, just complain in my profile and I'll refrain next time.
His "Rant" youtube series are now officially complete, and have in total 11 videos and an "in the making" episode.
Here's a link of a batch for everything: Rorico's Rant series [Complete: 1-11 + Bonus] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMjj-OlqPUI&list=PLOVs6w3Eu5pn2e8xTn5TQSLdv7mVH3X2Y&feature=plcp
He also began making a new series of videos called the "History" series, which are basically a youtube video format adaption of his well-researched and analytical huge-like-the-wall-of-China Anime History entry in his blog.
Here's the link for the the first video (three have been made in total. If you're interested for more, it shouldn't be hard to find the rest)...
