Aku no hana is probably my favorite anime of all time. The negative criticism really, really bothers me because it discourages amazing anime like this from being created. I hope Nagahama decides to do something experimental like that again... and please, PLEASE make a season 2.

Flowers of Evil was a fantastic adaptation. It captures the depression, anger and loneliness of being a teenage misfit better than any other anime. period. It may not be the prettiest show, but the art itself is made to reflect the ugliness of the situation and the emotions of everyone involved. The show's look perfectly encapsulates the characters' warped view of the world, which displays a level of thoughtfulness that many anime don't have.

Hell, the manga didn't even look that good to begin with. It's also kind of irritating that people are chastising a director for taking a risk, when most others working in the medium are stagnantly playing it safe. Heaven forbid a director have an artistic vision of their own, right?

"piece of shit" huh. i guess all creatives in the anime industry should never do anything ambitious ever again. also fwiw aku no hana was incredible and perfectly paced and the atmosphere was intoxicating. i'm so glad there are people like nagahama willing to go the extra mile AND risk so much for the sake of art.

Considering this is the guy who did Mushishi, there is literally no excuse for Aku no Hana for being the piece of shit that it was. The guy can obviously do slow-paced adaptions, but it didn't show at all in that series.
