Perfect director for Aku no Hana, great job.

People criticizing him for Aku no Hana is forgetting that he directed Mushishi, one of the most atmospherical and beautifully adapted anime of all time.

Also, Aku no Hana it's not just a story about femdom. It's a highly philosophical work of art about anarchism and a great bildungsroman overall. I think he understood the source material pretty well and came up with the idea of adapting it in such an unusual way in order to scratch up into the true essence of the story. I'm not saying it delivers, there are just so many unintentionally hilarious moments to take it seriously at times. But it tries, and for the most part it works. It's not the best neither the worst, but it's a bold adaptation and I loved the risk. I hope to see more from him in the future.

Nagahama is an interesting director who I believe has some Akiyuki Shinbo potential in him. Mushishi, Detroit Metal City, and now Aku no Hana, which is easily the most intriguing anime of the season (aesthetically and story-wise). He took a risk, and whether you like the end result of his rotoscoping or not, you have too admit that takes some major, heavy balls to do it. Look at all the backlash he received from the anime community (both fans of the original series and newcomers). It was pretty obvious it wouldn't pertain to everyone's tastes (that current rating of 5.98 is proof of that), but I think he chose to do it because he knew it was an appropriate choice considering the subject matter. I have only seen half the series at the moment, but so far I consider it a moody, suspenseful, and uneasy triumph.

His main animes so far are all excellent and I hope he goes on to take more risks.

"ugly" =/= bad

love the style choice for Aku no Hana. I don't think it would have worked with the typical anime style.

Different =/= Good.

Also, to the people praising him for doing something different, check out this guy's work. THIS is how you do unorthodox anime.

Aku no Hana is the anime this world needs and deserves. Thank you, Nagahama. You saint.

The choice to rotoscope for Aku no Hana will undoubtedly be one of the most controversial topics in anime this year! Brave, bold, and effective imho. Props to you Nagahama-san
