Overall a great parody manga for those who want to see the classic Evangelion characters in amusing situations, but still in what is nominally their original context (i.e. still training to defeat Angels by learning to pilot mechas rather than living a regular school life, as with the Shinji Ikari Raising Project).
Humour can be somewhat lowbrow (which is par for the course for a gag manga), but the various jabs at the ludicrousness of the premise of the original show, certain exaggerated character traits, and peculiarities of Japanese culture in general are executed fairly well and to a generally higher standard than most comic
...
spin-offs I've read. Despite the fairly wacky antics at times, the gags are at the very least more grounded and coherent than the surrealist, absurdist, or outright lolrandom gags that are typical of some other comedies I've enjoyed (Pop Team Epic, Bobobo, FLCL to varying extents).
Definitely a key factor to my enjoyment of this spin-off(as well as the Tony Takezaki Evangelion spinoff, with which it shares a similar brand of humour) is its minimal reliance on overly sexualized visual gags (which are funny in moderation but plague vast amounts of gag manga through overuse). Some favourite gags include Shinji's existential crisis after being issued a commemorative T-shirt instead of a plugsuit (and everyone else refusing to acknowledge it), Toji's surprising philosophical eloquence, and Akagi and Misato's inability to perform basic mathematics.
