Both titles help the reader learn about a real medical condition that many people know nothing about through the story of a family. A child with this unusual condition is born to an unknowing family who slowly learns how to take care of them and love their differences, despite the trials they face for being different.

Both series involve people with disabilities and struggles through society. Both also involve parents who struggle for their children. Only difference is that one involves autism (With the Light) and the other involves deafness (A Silent Voice). There is also more bullying in ASV than in WTL. Also the mother in the former series is more strict and cynical while the mother in the latter series is more kind, supportive and idealistic. That being said, ASL is more depressing than WTL.

Both series revolve around a mother as a protagonist and her pov concerning her son she cares about who is different from the majority of other people in society. They are both slice-of-life series that have an optimistic tone while also feeling realistic and relatable. They deal with family drama and school life and a mother doing her best to help her child grow up.

Both series feature characters that have mentally ill or disabled characters in which the author draws real-life experiences, tools, and stories from people in real life who have gone through these things. Both authors clearly care about people who are different and want to tell their stories to others. Good if you're looking for a similar series that includes various different characters.

With the Light and Wolf Children are similar in as they follow the family, mother, and children has they go through several points and ages in their life. Both of these manga introduce a key element that effects the family in question. With the Light being more down to earth and covering a very real condition. While Wolf Children goes in a more super natural direction. Even still, both are able to convey endearing, emotional, and important themes about one's family that hits close to home.

With the Light is similar to Wandering Son because they are both long drama/slice-of-life manga centered around the lives of children from a young age to early high school. The main characters of both series feature a child who is different from the majority of students and it showcases the struggles of navigating through life that way. If you're interested in seeing a realistic and considerate depiction of different people, I'd recommend this series.
