- Both male leads are singularly focused on helping out the main girl - Both are surrounded by other girls who like them, none of which can ever break through that focus - Both have slapstick harem elements that surround--but rarely interfere with--that basic story of a boy trying to help a girl with her problems. Dusk Maiden is a much darker story than Mayo Chiki. But the basic relationship at the core of each story is very similar.

In both stories, the main male protagonists suffer from a rather severe case of gynophobia or "fear of females". The two stories mostly deal with the protagonist trying (or being helped, as it is in Mayo Chiki) to overcome their condition via "shock therapy", i.e. sudden social contact with females. Both stories also have a popular, rich girl who plays a major role in the story, especially in the case of Zettai Joousei.

Mayo Chiki has the Usami arc, which is built on a fake relationship, while in Shurabara the MC, who wants a real girlfriend, has three girlfriends that are all initially fake. Of course, fake relationships can lead to real feelings eventually.

There is a profound similarity and difference. Both characters cross-dress as men in order to serve there master. While Hana no kishi focuses more on a goal to be the last knight of the round table. Mayo Chiki is a bit of slap-stick humor and light-heartedness focusing on the main boy character
