Synopsis

Shoujo Nemu tells the moving story of Nemu, a young girl who dreams of becoming a manga artist. Even though people couldn’t tell because of her shyness, Nemu possesses extraordinary talent, but it’s not until her encounter with Goro, a veteran manga artist plagued with self-doubt, that she begins to realize the true nature of her passion. What follows is an unusual friendship that ends up changing both their lives.

Background

Shoujo Nemu had one volume released in December 1996. The series was later reprinted with unreleased material in a complete volume subtitled Hirosuke Kizaki Memorial Edition in September 2001.

In the postscript of the reprinted volume, former Comic Beam editor-in-chief Katsuhiko Okumura stated that artist Hirosuke Kizaki discontinued the series after deciding he could no longer work on it.

do yourself a favor and do not pick this one up.

The story seemed to be going places...
the characters seemed interesting...
I thought i would really like this one...

But the ending... It just isn't there...

Apparently the mangaka died.

If you can look past, there is no ending, then this is one you should pick up. if you hate things being incomplete avoid this.

I strongly disagree with people who say that there is no ending. There is, it's just too subtle to notice if you're not into this kind of stuff. Maybe I'm just exaggerating, because mangaka actually never completed any of his works and that's not because he died, but because he stated that he can't. But I really think that Shoujo Nemu ended where it should before it became another pointless romance story about hard-brained man and soft woman. And that make it something special, even if only a little. I enjoyed it as a a whole and it's distinctive visual style particularly.

What is the true shape of our dreams, what do we really desire, and what are its consequences?

A story about a girl's transitional moments and her relationship with the manga industry. How adults are charlatans filled with the same doubts and bound by responsibilities. How our dreams drift away in the empty afternoons, when the children come home from playing in the mud and the swings squeak lonely in the twilight of the park. About the noises of the city nights, which remain in our heads, about the distant lights in front of us.

The drawing is a melody that calmly shows a familiar world ...
