Character archetype spoiler, which still pisses me off.
Despite me being a complete sucker for the whole childhood friend dynamic and chemistry within a high school romance story, this was pretty mediocre all around from its predictable and generic writing/plot devices.
As an overview, the plot isn’t the best solely from the manga’s premise relying on a cliche trope. As for the plot points, developments, and potential uniqueness, they all suffer from the same thing: generics. The writing of this manga was no more than mediocre, as at times the manga sets up a plot point but only carries it out four or five chapters later. To add to this, there are some terrible and apparent inconsistencies within the characters, and these characters “circle around” a “secret” that they never tell each other for the sake of “plot.”
Despite the main cast being inconsistent with their personalities, they do exhibit some “best friend” chemistry, albeit a bit forced and awkward at times. As for the side characters, they are cliche and are disposable according to the plot’s requirements. With that being said, some of the details and twists inside of the characters are atrocious, mainly the “gay best friend” trope, as it came completely out of left field for absolutely no reason at all.
Though this manga is still somewhat enjoyable with its poorly-written plot, developments, and characters, these flaws also cause the manga to be mediocre among the same type of stories — there’s not much of an incentive to read this over others besides for the unique main cast chemistry.
