This is the best Boy's Love manga I've read. Despite being a Chinese manga, and having to follow the strict censorship regulations of LGBT+ content that exist in China, the relationship of the two protagonists has been adapted clearly and beautifully, being as faithful as legally possible to the source novel.
But Mo Dao Zu Shi is so much more than a gay romance.

Let us start with what this Manhua actually is as it is by far most important factor.
You see - the name of the manhua is BY FAR the most misleading title in the history of mankind. If you were hoping for some serious evil demonic cultivation series - throw your thoughts away, RIGHT NOW, leave this page immediately and never return! You are still here? Alright, let's continue then. The demonic cultivation is mostly an afterthought. In fact 'cultivation' is outright not present at all, characters are Mary Sue from get go. It was ok. I decided to drop it after the first volume, because it never managed to interesed me. There is nothing in the story that made me want to continue reading, not even its characters. The drawing style isn't my thing at all, I feel it's very simple and even a little ugly. I feel like I drop it before the plot started or maybe it's that I didn't understand exactly what the plot was about even having read up to chapter fifty. In short, the entire mdzs universe is worth it for the donghua. At the beginning of the manhua the art is really bad. Then, it improves a little, but not enough, since the story is poorly adapted compared to the donghua. The manhua in general, and sex chapters specifically, are childish and this causes the loss of all the solemnity, mystery, and delicacy of the story.
So disappointing that this manhua is not up to par the story. And probably it's the same for the original novel. To sum up, the great work have been made by the creators of the donghua. Long live ... |
