After rereading this series after its cancellation, I have come to terms with the axe for that it's a niche series that not everybody is willing to read. It's filled with bizarre ideas and strange characters that will be off putting to the typically shounen reader.

Lets get into the details!

STORY:
It's a fair story that isn't bad nor is it award-winning story-telling. It had some nice plots and this bizarre aspect that made the stories wacky but good.

ART:
The art isn't bad nor excellent, it's works for a gag-manga and it would cause a battle-manga to get axed.

... CHARACTER:
By far the best part of Mitama Security are the characters, I loved that Fish dude who wanted to take over the world and Mitama the main character is superior than the average gag protagonist. These characters are filled with uniqueness and are funny.

ENJOYMENT:
Comedy is amazing the majority of the time, the times the jokes don't land. You get a amazing joke right after that fixes the problem of shitty joke. It made me laugh and it made me love the characters.

Overall, I would recommend this to people who love gag mangas but if you don't read gag manga don't use this as an entry series.
It gets a 7 for goodness.

Slice-of-life with ghosts.
This story is about a school girl called Haze Rena. She always has a line of ghosts following her, but she’s used to it. One day, a guy called Mitama appears before her and tells her that he’s gonna protect her from all the ghosts. He is part of the SecuREIty (‚Rei‘ means ‚ghost‘, so they were going for a little wordplay there) a sort of organization that fights ghosts. She doesn’t really care about them, though - plus, Mitama is really bad at his job because he is actually really scared of ghosts. They start hanging out together and get into ... all sorts of little adventures. The fact that ghosts are present doesn’t always play a role, it really feels more like a slice-of-life story.
The characters (who all have weird names, especially this one detective guy, I suppose it’s a parody of all those long names people used to have - made me laugh, anyways) feel chuunibyou-ish (but since the ghosts are actually there and the guys - for now Mitama and his ‚rival‘ Souya are part of the security, they’re not) they are still a bit delusional when it comes to their own abilities (they are very good at certain things, but pride themselves on being able to do completely different things that they’re actually pretty bad at)
Some wordplay and the humor is kind of ‚loud‘, which I can find annoying in other series, but the characters are charming so it works for me here. As always, humor is very subjective, I personally had to laugh a lot reading it. Haz is always pretty chill, Mitama freaks out about every little thing - I like this kind of dynamic/balance. I like the scenes with Mitama and Souya the most.
There is the possibility that some kind of romance between Haze and Mitama could develop but I really hope it won’t, I’d like to see more „special“ types of connections in mange that don’t have to be romantic, but maybe that’s just me (just kidding, I know it’s not just me)
The art is not really my thing, but in comedy, it's forgivable.
Anyways, I feel like this would be popular if it got animated. I’d recommend you check out the first few chapters if you like comedy. I’m afraid a lot of the humor could get lost in translation, though.

With Mitama Security you will get a comedy manga, which has its ups and downs. Sometimes you laugh you butt off, sometimes you get the same jokes again and again, and sometimes the joke is just poor. So it is varied but not always in a good way. But let's us start with the categories.

Story 4/10
It is a comedy manga. So yeah, story is almost irrelevant. You have a bit of storyline, sometimes you get 2-3 chapters which connects, but it doesn't have a big pictuse or something like that. It's all about jokes! However, even if it's just about funny moments, you can create ... a good story and good jokes at the same time. It even had the potential to do a kind of storyline, but it drifts always to jokes or abrut "funny" end. For my taste it was too much sometimes.

Art 3/10
Comedy mangas don't have to have amazing art, of course, but it still bothers me. It felt like "even I could draw something like that". Which is of course not true, but this shows how simple the art was, even for a comedy manga. And I think, with a better art (especially for the spirits) it could have better jokes and at the end better views.

Characters 6/10
What I liked was the big palette of characters. I read/watched some comedy mangas/animes, and I often experienced a hand full of characters. Here we get a ton of them! For every type of joke you get a special spirit or character. And it doesn't just happens ones then it get forgotten forever. Also, it was really nice from the Author that he worked in fan made spirits to his story. And as I mentioned, with a better art, it would maybe even get higher points. (because a simple drawn fish as a fish spirit is maybe funny a bit, but not overwhelming)

Enjoyment 6/10
I would say, the most important part of a comedy manga is, that it brings you to laugh and enjoying it. And I must say, it succeeded... However just for the 3/5 of the manga. Especially as a sport manga and pokémon fan, you get some really nice jokes! But on the other hand total unfunny jokes... And of course, it depends on your humor.

Overall 6/10
Overall, if it hits your humor, you enjoy it (maybe not all chapters, but at least the half of it), if not you will hate it... So I would say, read the first 3-5 chapters, to get a picture what kind of comedy it is, and if you laugh (or at least smirk) give it a try. If not, then not.
