SynopsisA young man finds and returns a lost wallet and cell phone to a beautiful young lady, thus begins the destined relationship between two strangers. Sound typical? Well then, how about making the young lady the young man’s future homeroom teacher, and give them both a twisted sense of right and wrong. And just for kicks, let’s have the young man help himself to a self proclaimed reward from the lost wallet before returning it… but of course, this scenario wouldn’t be complete unless the young lady was very unforgiving when it came to teaching one of her students a lesson on morals.

Unbalance x Unbalance (UxU) is a Harem, Ecchi, Romance manhwa dealing with what will become some interesting love affairs. It's remarkable how this manhwa portrays this sort of forbidden romance, however for a title that had so much potential, I'm not too please with how it all turned out.
Enter Jin-Ho Myung, a seemingly regular guy, coasting through his High School life. That is until a new homeroom teacher, Hae-Young Nah enters the picture. It is by some amusing coincidences that the two have several run-ins with each other and it were these unusual circumstances that sparked an interest between the two. From there the story for this harem is rather exciting in the way that it is not so straight-forward, when compared with most of the childish harems, in the familiar High School setting, as there are plenty of twist. Another thing I appreciate is that it doesn't focus on trying to find as many ludicrous opportunities to show some panties, but rather just dealing the main issues at hand. However as the chapters go on and a lot of the romantic ties remain unsettled, the story tends to drag and actual progress occurs at a snail's pace. Also there were some very questionable moment throughout the duration of its serialization, especially towards the end.
Yet just like with some of Dal Young’s other works, the artwork is pretty much perfect for this kind of manhwa and it is really hard to find any major bad points to it. There are well drawn environments but of course your attention will be on the characters. Sure there are plenty of well-endowed, attractive young ladies, which is what makes this an ecchi romance in the first place; however the guys also look appealing and that’s a rarity within the genre. Though one thing that irked me from time to time is the perpetual blushing. Once you yourself notice it, you'll struggle to un-notice it.
Well like in any romance, the story and artwork mean nothing without the characters to help bring it all to life. UxU does that well, with some very intriguing character personalities that do not follow the usual criteria (well not always). The male protagonist is a welcome change from all the typical "loser-kuns" or the incredibly "nice guys" we find in harems, however it’s easy to have mixed feelings on Jin-Ho because of how he operates. In short, Jin-Ho can be a bit of an a-hole. Then there’s Hae-Young, who is an attractive and nicely portrayed heroine and has plenty more appealing traits. Together they make some interesting chemistry, something that's needed to make any couple or potential couple interesting, which is where I think the title fell short. Not all the girls had interesting chemistry with Jin-Ho, so in the end they felt more like side characters, than the main characters they were meant to be.
Overall UxU is one of my favourite harem titles, which really doesn't feel like a harem title, because it shows a relationship not hindered by typical indecisiveness but by society’s judgement. Yet at times it does feel like the mangaka it constantly trying to impede on any real romantic development, with some indecisiveness on the female-front. Jin-Ho can be a bit of an a-hole and his action's may irk some, but he is still a refreshing change from the norm and it was nice seeing him persevere, in his own way. It's a shame the author couldn't do the same and persevere with the quality of the story, as the story took a turn, in the final volume and degenerated into what cannot be described better than a generic Korean soap opera drama. The ending just felt cobbled together turning UxU into one of those titles that had so much potential, but screwed it up towards the end. So if you enjoy your harems or romances then be sure to check this one out, even if the story ends out of balance. read more

one of the reasons that i began reading his manhwa would definitely the gorgeous art. the other would be the complications between forbidden romance.
to lose oneself over love means to give up ones' dignity in the eyes of the many. i guess that would be the lesson that unbalance x unbalance is trying to tell the reader. the dilemma comes in the form that a student, jin ho, is in love with his teacher, hae young.
will love prevail over morals or the thoughts of other people? for a teacher that lives on morals and abides by the rule, hae young is troubled by this dilemma. should she give in for her love? but if she does, what would other people think? on the other hand, jin ho thinks of his resolve. that he loves his teacher no matter what. that he doesn't care about what others think and that all that matters is his love for her. in the end, how will the two ends meet? if one always keeps on pushing the other while one insists on moving forth.
a good manhwa that focuses on a love that continuously defies time, opinion, and reason. read more

This is a recommendation with a difference: rather than recommending both, I'm recommending UxU to those who read or watched Please Teacher and were left unimpressed by how fake the characters acted. Where as PT is aimed squarely at those who fantasize over big-breasted doormats, UxU is a far more realistic take on romance between a student and his teacher. A must read for those who were left wanting more from PT.
----------
What sells UxU to most people is the lead. Usually in these type of stories the male lead defines pathetic; having no backbone, no strength, and still somehow getting a gang of hotties after him. But UxU's lead differs from the norm. He'll argue with aggression if anyone disagrees with him, and he has a nasty side to him where he totally loses it; even hitting females. He also wants to be a movie director, and one of his early encounters with the teacher he loves involves an argument over him watching what she considers to be porn at school--him questioning whether she's inexperienced and getting slapped to death as a result.
What's so great about him is that, as a reader, I could believe he'd have girls interested in him. Strong, protective, loyal, good looking--he has a lot of qualities. And, of course, because of his horrible temper, he also has a bad boy thing going for him. There's even the typical haremish bit where a slutty character throws herself at the lead to make him blush... and he responded by turning the tables on her; pushing her down, having a feel, and leading her to believe he was going to make a move on her.
As for the teacher the lead lusts after, she's not an alien posing as a teacher; determined to marry the king of all losers--that much is certain. It's hard to believe that a 26/7-year-old hottie could be a virgin who hasn't even had a boyfriend, but her total mistrust of males following her father abandoning her as a child just about explains her past actions, and why she's so resistant to trusting the opposite sex. A big part of the story is her fighting a mental battle between her duties as a teacher and her feelings for the lead, and she's far from an easy lay--not giving into the lead's persistent advances; even going as far as to challenge him to win her over within a short period of time or risk losing her completely.
There's a fair bit of genre confusion that makes the series more interesting, also. It starts out more as a rom-com as the main two get to know each other in comical circumstances - the two ending up believing they had a night of passion whilst drunk - but it's definitely more of a... uhhhh, 'rom-dra'; drama taking over almost completely later on. And, just to fill the Korean comic book violence quota, around halfway through there's a totally random delinquent arc where the lead gets it on with some nasty guys and girls from his school; showing his true, violent colours for the first time.
Can't believe no mention this one. Same story scenario where a teacher and her student falls in love.
Similar story scenario where a teacher and her student falls in love.
Same thing. A high school MALE student with a female teacher. Epic story.

It took me by complete surprise just how similar the two are, when I read B Reaction.
To begin with, both of the hot-headed, aggressive teenage male leads find themselves at war with hot-as-hell teachers in their 20s. Misunderstandings result in the two getting thought of as perverts, and all-out verbal (UxU) and physical (B) warfare results.
As the stories progress, the relationships quickly take romantic turns after the misunderstandings are cleared up and the pairings find themselves in increasingly compromising positions. Hate turns to love, etc etc...
One of the things that links the teachers - 2D attractiveness aside - is how they're both *SOMEHOW* virgins and both *SOMEHOW* never dated. UxU had more background info on this but, whichever way you spin it, in this world it wouldn't be possible for females with those looks to evade men for so long. (Just put logic aside for romanticism, Aion...)
B Reaction has stunning, drool-worthy art, and I'd say its first volume betters UxU with its combination of exciting action and amusing/panty-flashing romance. But then the art became inconsistent and it was canceled... which means it ended without ANY ending.
Teacher/Student romance just like this but less fighting
If you take away the martial arts, both are pretty similar with how they revolve around a student's relationship with his teacher. Similar concepts but Unbalance is way more developed
