Hey guys! I just finished SAO and I think it was quite entertaining, time just flew by when I watched this show (I got to admit that the first half of the show appealed more to me than the second half, though the ending was great).

So what I just found out from your Posts is that the Light Novels are still ongoing. I wanted to ask if the Anime stayed true to the Light Novels or if they have changed alot? And would you guys recommend reading the Light Novels?

Thanks alot
The events are about 70% the same.It is the characterization and world building in the anime is that suck ass(note that I like the LN).
And if GGO is going to be made dont get your hopes up.If SAO was bad at those two things then GGO will be even worse.

Good choice.I say give it a try,you may like it more. The anime even let out an entire part that is needed for a later volume.

No there isnt.If there was, the anime would be in the database here and flame wars and hype would be all over the place.

There is a difference between the light novels and the anime, but not so much. I also hate it that they made the manga's even shorter -.-

Only real difference is the 2nd episode of the anime and the phantom avenger part are not in the SOA light novels (the 1st and 2nd volume). Phantom avenger is a somewhat late side story and the 2nd episode of the anime is part of a somewhat reboot of the light novel series

I'm not one to hop in bandwagons, be it to hate or cheer a specific series, but the really strong point of SAO was the permadeath threat hanging around everyone like a shadown. That survival element was what made the show standout, and even shine for a brief moment.

A point that was so uterlly disregarded later on that made the show borderline generic, aside from the MMO feeling wich a lot of people seems to dig.

There is something I noticed and I'm not sure about it, but the ones who like SAO are mostly people who play MMORPG's. Am I wrong?

That's also true but I think the feeling of actualy living inside an MMORPG and fighting for your live is what i think the main reason why MMORPG players love this serie.

I wouldn't say mostly, but it's definitive a nice plus if you play some MMOs.
I think the whole story (at least the first half) is set up neatly. I don't know of anyone who hasn't at least tried a computer game before, and be it just Tetris or some sort of Ping Pong, or Mario, ect... So the setting shouldn't be incomprehensible for anyone to at least slightly grasp this permanent and omnipresent fear of:" If I get killed in the game, I'll die for real".
I really like the idea to be honest and probably would have liked it even it was a single player shooter xD The fact that I'm playing MMOs and that the show really implemented details like it was an actual MMO just makes it more decent for me.
Sanity? I can't even remember having a thing like that to start with...

With the amount of effin' sales they should be doing it a lot earlier.

BUT OH WELL, they always do this shit, think of Highschool DxD, Infinite Stratos, Freezing, etc.

I'm for sure they will animate It. If SAO is really popular, then why wouldn't they make a Season 2? But I do hope If they do decide to Animate It, It better not screw up like SAO did. Personally, the only thing I enjoyed there was the fighting scenes. I understood the Story, but I kinda felt that I skipped some Episodes. Oh well.

They didn't screw up if they sold so much, by the way.

The point is in the light novels there are a lot more details and side stories and the animation is made from the light novels. The things that aren't animated still come back a little in the story. So basically you really did miss some parts. ^^

You want me to translate that?

"Yeah, same as you, I hate how his sister was in love with him. I was like "What? That doesn't make sense". X( I still liked Kirito though."

Maybe the last part does not tie for you with the first, but I could explain it and you can choose one of these two explanations, note that these are the ones I see fit.

It looks like he "blames" Kirito for Suguha liking him OR he disliked everything about the show except for Kirito.

Because they usually put all the money they've got from the first season in the second...

That way there wouldn't be any anime, it's all about profit.

the producer and animator already had a conference in which they included this anime in, they said they WANT to do this anime, they really do. but since theyre still on the proggresion to turning this online anime into a t.v show on toonami. its behind on their priority list. but they do indeed want to and are interseted

Sword art online wasn't a bad series, i rate it at my top 10 or maybe even 5? I don't judge a show on animation quality, character development, back story or anything like that, i just rate it on how much i enjoyed the series and SAO was so much fun to watch, i finished all 25 episodes in one day. I think people were disappointed more that anything, the light novels went into characters story and had a whole lot of content, which the anime lacked. Now i would have loved more content but i think they were just testing it out to see how well it did and SAO was so widely popular that i think they'll do better with gun gales online as they know people enjoy it.

Maybe this should be another forum question all together, but is anyone else scared for them to release ggo like I am? I read the short stories and they were good, but i just hope they can pull it off if they do...

Long story short i think that will kinda kill its popularity if they dont play it off right..

I agree

the sad thing is, we won't actually know if there'll be a season 2 until January 1st (about a day after the Extra Edition release) as at the end, there is said to be a hint to whether they'll have a season 2 or not.

Also, seeing that they did so well with season 1 (Aincrad and ALO Arcs) and kept with the story with a few minor mishaps, they were excellent, so the chances of Season 2 are quite high!

you know, I once said I'd never get addicted to something... well I'm still not

No one knows, like Medic said it may happen in 2014, though I doubt it would go past 2015 since the anime has a huge fanbase and is selling well.

I actually found a pretty decent amount of info for Gundale online not sure when it comes out probably sometime in the fall and yes previous characters will be in it ***Spoiler alert! Setting:
The game is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth, which had become a wasteland after a huge war long ago, that people had returned to on space ships. The capital city of the game, called SBC Gurokken, with SBC meaning Space Battle Cruiser, was originally the spaceship that was used to return to this planet. A huge city of ruins from the war, which has an unlimited number of automated fighting machines and mutant creatures that await adventurers, sleeps beneath the capital city.
Character list:
Asuna
Agil
Klein
Lisbeth
Silica
Yui
And Kirito
