Hah, if you had actually questioned why a good studio would pick up P2 since it's not a famous chapter from the Persona franchise, than I could agree with you. But the fact that it had an outdated gameplay has nothing to do with it having a good adaptation. Nor do I agree that it had the worst antagonists in the entire SMT universe. Let's take P3 as an example: I don't see much of a difference between any of them. In the end, it's all based on subjectivity. I, for instance, like Nyarly because he acts as an abominable shadow that keeps haunting your party and always manages to achieve something he tried to. He didn't have his way in EP, but the fact remains that he broke the IS party and separated Maya from Tatsuya, meaning a minor victory for his side. Plus, P4A seems to hint that he'll come back, indicating how important he is to the franchise. And even so, P2 has other aspects for its adaptation. It had a great cast (the best, IMO; you just can't win against Eikichi, Maya and Tatsuya) that even became the base for characters for P3 and P4 (Lisa X Eikichi for Chie X Yosuke,for example) and a great plot that had a good pacing (something that both P3 and P4 lack: they still haven't managed to create a balance between the slice of life aspect of the game and the main plot, and thus, we have many moments of the story in which nothing really happens). EP being pointless is also pretty subjective: about half of its plot revolve around the same events of IS, but it does have its unique moments and the "plot twist" of everything being Tatsuya's fault in the first place. Anyway, I'd prefer a P2 adaptation over a P3 because I think it would render a better animation. At least it would have a plot that wouldn't be to defeat a Shadow per month until something happened. But oh well, since they decided to adapt a plot that was mainly about rescuing future party members, they might as well just adapt P3 and forget about P2. Mod edit: added spoiler tag |
