| The ending caught me a bit off-guard, but in the end I think I like Cooro's backstory the most. It gave that "serious" vibe I missed throughout the most of manga. 7/10 still, but... Damn, that was a nice backstory. |

| The subplot with the "angel" didn't really work for me, for some reason I can't quite place. Cooro's overly cheerful attitude was starting to annoy me by that point and ending the manga without explaining, well, him, would've been a copout, but I didn't really enjoy the last arc. I did like the other characters (especially Nana and Husky) and the world building, though. 7/10 |
| This underrated series as a whole gets a 10/10 for me (maybe a 9.5). I loved this series. My only real gripe I've had with this series ever since I read it years ago, was that it ended in the way that it did. It just felt as if they could've gotten more story out of it. It would've been nice to know how the kids turned out and if they ever found a place to call home. If Husky lost his +Anima, would he consider returning to his home and maybe changing laws in regards to those who are +Anima, like banning slavery there. Would he and Nana when older become a couple? How would Cooro fare, since I doubt he'd ever lose his +Anima since he's so attached to it and didn't receive one normally anyway. I still remember when I came across this series...2008. I bought the entire series as they came out. I was working as an assistant teacher at my former middle school and saw that in the library they had manga (definitely wouldn't have in the 90s lol). I came across that first volume, and was hooked! It did this for the entirety of the series. Terribly underrated and wish more knew of it and I wish it would've received an anime. Given the nature of it, this would've been perfect for an anime adaptation...but only if one in a style similar to maybe earlier 2000s style....like say 1999 Hunter x Hunter with the world building and pacing of that nature, not the ADHD approach to practically everything these days. |
