| Even though knowledge of the previous series isn't required to watch this, I'm surprised at why so many people who have picked this up haven't bothered to watch the original series,DYRL, Plus, 7, Zero, etc. before watching this since it is a sequel to all them. I feel that watching them before Frontier makes you enjoy the series more since you'll be able to appreciate its references and tributes more such as the saluting VF-25 in reference to DYRL and Alto's tribute to Isamu in Plus. Please explain why you haven't watched its prequels if you've only watched Frontier . Is it because the age of its predecessors that alienates you guys from watching it or is it because you've guys never heard of them before? |

| Well, it's a lot to watch and Macross Frontier was made with explicit purpose to introduce the franchise to new generations with no experience with franchise beforehand. So it's not surprising many have gone straight to Macross Frontier. As for me, I watched first few episodes of Frontier, then watched DYRL because Frontier had already proved to me Macross was interesting franchise, then finished Frontier and then got onto seeing the rest and in process turned into Macross fan. Excluding 7 - which is pretty terrible in my opinion - they're all worth seeing, definetly. Frontier is without doubt richer experience more Macross titles you've seen - I'm happy I saw DYRL before episode 24 for sure - but it's pretty hard to get your average anime viewer get down to watching tv anime from early 80s for obvious reasons. Which is why I tend to recommend people getting into Frontier to see DYRL. Of course if they can "handle" old school tv anime then I advice them to start with SDF Macross but such people are minority. |
| I watched the original Macross, Plus (my favorite) and Zero. I will eventually start this one. I'm skipping Macross 7 because it does look bad, or at least it is not interesting enough for me to watch it. |

| I originally watched Frontier as well, lol. It's afterwards that the fans who really want to embrace the Macross franchise watch the good oldies, or there's those that just want to stick with Frontier; which's fine, too. It's the SEED of Macross, meant to bring in the newer generations. I still need to watch thru' the original series, 7 and Plus tho'. <_< And the SDF Macross movie. xD |

| I started with Macross Zero because it is chronological the first serie (In the anime universe). I watched in the order that MAL provides because is the best for knowing all the things when I started Frontier. |
