Hey, guys! You may have noticed that we've been doing a bit here and there to improve the club: I'm in the process of improving the front page a tad and our new relations admins are doing a great job already.

One thing I've been wondering about for a while is club activity. I know I'm content to have a club around just to be there when I want it, but I know some people prefer to see more action (member cards, weekly discussion, etc.). To that end, is there any interest in things like this, and if so, what in particular? And are any members interested in maintaining activities?

Also, a note on club pictures. We are a pro-dub club, not an anti-sub or anti-fansub club! As much as the bad fansub screenshots are amusing, they're not relevant to the club. I'm keeping some of them up for the time being, but let's try to keep it to dub-relevant images like voice actors after this, shall we?

Have a english dub tournament. each day or couple of days or week make a poll with 4 english dub anime and get people to vote for the dub they thought was the best. Keep doing that till there's only one dub standing.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. We've done something similar on the [adult swim] message boards, called a battle royale. It's held annually and members can make nominations themselves. If you don't mind hurt and heal threads, I'd be willing to host something along those lines, Anomalous.

I'm not sure about member cards or weekly discussions, though. Member cards strike me as tacky (and they crash my internet connection all too often -_-) and I don't think a discussion is much of a discussion if it's obligatory.

English dub tournament sounds good, maybe even do one for English VAs.

I also don't like the idea of member cards, but I think a discussion would be fun, each month or week have one anime that we all suggested to watch and then later discuss, if done right that could be interesting.

How about daily topics discussing the dub of an anime or vice actor?

So far it looks like having a tournament and/or formal discussions (which will certainly not be mandatory) are the most liked ideas. I can tell you right now that if I try to moderate either of these, I will get horribly behind, because I am awful at being consistent with that sort of thing. Is anybody interested in being in charge of either of these?

I'm not interested in the regulated discussions, but I'm happy to cover the tournament.

Honestly, I think if someone wants to start a new discussion once a week on their own accord, that's fine and dandy. I don't think anyone would participate any more or any less if it were something we obliged ourselves to do on a regular basis. If you have something to post, post it, if you don't, you don't - you can't force a thread to prosper.

I'm actually interested in the regulated discussions. Frankly I've never had much of that sort of thing where I would enjoy a friendly discussion with some people about a show while watching it. Not that we technically could be watching a show at the same time while sitting on the couch togethor or anything, but I would like something like that at least. I never had anime clubs at my school since practically no one is into anime, my friends rarely hang at my place nowadays, and the only anime club I could go to according to where I live are, well, ...much older than me.

So if anything like that can happen here, I'm all for it.

I had two thoughs of what we could do.

One is to come up with suggestions and a kind of how to guide about defending dubs against sub snobs. Recomindations on how to behave when debateing and things to bring up to defend with.

The other idea is to devise a how to run a panel on the topic of dubs. I tried doing this once and failed miserbaly.

You don't. You just... don't. It's not an option. There's absolutely no way to convince them, they're too far lost. Better to isolate them where we don't have to put up with them.

Not sure what a panel is, but I don't think dubs as a whole need to be discussed that much here. There's already a "Why do you like English dubs?" thread. That's more than enough for me.
