| Volume 7, Chapter 4: This chapter is a good example of why this novels series feels so off from where it started. The main issue is that the focus of the combat has shifted from the tactical level to the operational level. The focus of these battles are large sweeping maneuvers of armies, and it has resulted in Tanya's unit engaging in more vague battles. The breakout of the Federation didn't make much sense. You could very well see some units escape, but the idea that tens of thousands of Soldiers who have to walk able to escape is pretty ridiculous. It's also odd that they were caught by surprise considering the air superiority the Empire had should have told them where significant combat power was moving and preparing to force a breakout. This chapter also contradicts a key point from an earlier novel. Tanya's unit massacred a city because one day of cut off supplies would severly weaken the front, yet the Federation survived for three days without supplies and didn't seem to have any issues using key equipment such as tanks. |
