Don't take this as criticism, I'm on episode 3 and I actually like the artstyle and feel it has potential. I'm just a little confused what the show is about and what the end goal is.

Is this a SoL style Isekai with a bit of drama? Will there be another end goal other than trying to survive and kill goblins? Without giving any Spoilers past episode 3, can someone explain?

There is more than killing goblins
It is not Slice of Life

Of course they try to survive.
They have a goal but thats later more important.

they are just trying to survive and this anime has a pretty interesting drama, that's all.

I think the focus on realism and survival like how teenagers will survive in a fantasy setting and how a mere goblin will be life threatening (consider Goblin Slayer but lighter and easier to watch ).
This is just my opinion and maybe there’s more than what I said.

Ultra realism and a soul crushing grind and adjustment that would be needed if you were transported to another world with no special powers given or previous information known. If you like your Isekai protagonist to have a serious advantage that makes them OP and be the center piece of the new world, then this story is not for you.

I think it's the most realistic isekei, and it's a damn shame that we will probably never get more.

Honestly, there’s no big goal (at least in the anime). They’re just living their lives and struggling to be able to keep doing so. Only keep watching if you like the characters, cause it’s mostly character focused.

One of the most underrated and realist isekai ever, you have to keep watching in order to fully grasp what it’s about.

They are just trying to survive and the ending feels generic so I didn't like it but goota admit that the art and characters were great .. before that girl came in the cast

I had started it because I heard it was a dark isekai, pretty meh in that regard as with most things in this show except for the art/animation. I doubt I would have been able to finish Grimgar if it didn't have it's great visuals.

It takes the “group of high school kids go to another world” formula but actually makes them high school kids rather than the reincarnation of Jesus that gets bitches. It’s a breath of fresh air for the genre for me.

Refreshing?
Nah more like not excessively dripping with The same mind numbing basic shit everywhere.
I finished it. Was underwhelming at best.
Draw? Realism etc etc like everyone else said.
But still. This anime feels too random and out of place.

I finished episodes 4 and 5 a few hours ago and I get what you mean, it's very good.

It has a simple goal, it is not some legend of a great hero nor it's about some great event.
It is just a story about everyday life of some ordinary adventurers.

If your favorite part of anime are boring conversations about breast size and how the archetype pervert tried to spy on a girls bath, go for it. There is not much that happens in this show. It's all filler with little to no character development. Any progress they make is done through time skips and the narrator summarizing it.

I like the show so far but its lacking something for me. The attempt at a realistic/dark SoL fantasy is interesting, but I just finished episode 10 and I don’t see how they’re going to wrap it up in 2 episodes in any kind of satisfying way. Could be a consequence of trying to adapt a Light Novel in 1-cour. Makes it feel more like an advertisement for the Light Novels than a substantive anime. IIRC the light novels are still ongoing so clearly there is an overwhelming amount of story to pull from. If they ever come out with more seasons I would definitely watch for the art style and story potential.
