This is a classic example of an anime too popular for it's own good

Really it's not that bad, but it's nothing amazing. Yeah it has plot holes and is unrealistic, but the mystery element was intriguing enough to make up for that. It's obvious why this anime became so popular due to its over the top gore, but really it doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

From a producer's standpoint I think it's better to become popular for the "wrong reasons" that stay obscure forever.

Yeah, it just kinda sucks to see a fun little mystery horror get blasted for no reason.

i agree.. i just watched this for the first time & heard that it was 'over-hyped' years ago. just gave it a chance & it's actually amazing.
