It's impressive the Imperial Army was able to pull off such a well orchestrated deception. The hardest thing to believe is that someone actually approved of such an operation. I'm struggleing to think of historic examples where a military has conducted such a large retrograde of their own choosing in the face of the enemy in an orderly fashion. The best example I can think of is the China in the Korean War, where their Army withdrew far to the North after their first thrust was stopped South of Seoul. The United Nations Forces advanced into unoccupied terrain, and were completely surprised by China's second offensive. The United Nations didn't break, though multiple units were effectively destroyed in the fighting.

I personally would advice against Tanya putting too much money into ammunition companies. War production companies only make money while a war is going on, and many of them will go under when the war stops. You only need to look at Spain after WWI to see all the war production factories close down and a great deal of economic turmoil hit the population because of it. Natural resources are unlikely to make an individual money, but it is a good guarantee to maintain value in whatever situation develops. The challenge is to ensure you can maintain possession of it.

Next volume is gonna be so hype, the first half of this one was very weak if not straight up boring but the last half more than compensated for that. This chapter in particular had a great mix of appreciation for the things that happened in the past and the path our characters are going toward in the future, even though both have been distorted by the cruel reality of war, so you couldn’t call either as a good reality to be in or strive for.
