| To be honest most people in my experience just have considered it odd for the most part, not good or bad. However, for those who find it bad, well that's just the typical anti-nerd thing which has been going since forever... it's too bad we can't all find ways to be happy together. Sometimes people just have that initial "new thing" reaction and it's just a matter of time to show them things, like my mom really heard of understood of anime but after seeing things like Miyazaki movies she got around to the idea. And some anime just isn't all that great though... |

It's just that people mostly associate it with kid shows, if they even know about it at all. | 1. Cultural differences, more violence allowed, stuff that doesn't click well with western audiences. 2. Ecchi is more common which might make people think that's all it is. 3. The stuff that does get insanely popular really isn't that well made. Naruto has a bunch of crap filler, Fairy Tail is a joke, SAO is poorly made most of the way through, Dragonball is slow and in Z most of the excitement is just from the fights. And besides most of their popularity comes from the manga which is even harder to find since it also has to be imported. 4. Dumb people spreading misinformation just to get attention like Soul Eater is worshiping the devil or Pokemon teaches evolution (not well and not even). |
| What would you expect with M.A.L. ratings? — It's clear that a great portion of the fandom treats it as nothing but wish fulfillment and is irate at even the slightest lack of it. You'll notice that, say Twilight draws a similarly bad reputation. It certainly does not help matters either that many many treat it as their live, and refuse to watch anything that is not animated and from Japan, and are thus quite obnoxious about it.  |
