That was an amazing episode, my favourite so far of the season. I enjoyed seeing them fight here way more than the manga, it felt way more tense I guess. Nonetheless I'm looking forward to next time!!

Hinata calling Kageyama his partner was so nice :') Really shows how much he and his relationship with Kageyama has been developing, though I surely hope he doesn't become too greedy.

The final outcome of the episode was discounted perhaps already at the beginning of the tournament friendly, but some of the blaze Karasuno in the field made it less obvious, is just what happened, but the best part of the narrative is the time when the protagonists and others, understand that they must still improve their skills. Excellent also the growth of the relationship between Hinata and intepersonale Tobio. Excellent animation and designs, can not wait to see what happens in the next episode.

How did this show get so much better during the second season? Did the mangaka have an epiphany? Did the show get new writers? What the fuck?

Come on now, you know season 1 was great.

That being said I agree: season 2 improved drastically on every aspect of the show that made it great, which is saying something considering how high quality the first season already was. The drama doesn't feel cheesy at all and you can almost see the growing tension between some members of the team and how it negatively impacts their performance during matches.

That fight felt real as fuck and carried so much weight because both parties had perfectly justifiable motives and arguments (even though I'm on Shouyou's side this time: the freak quick in its current state is reaching its limits and without it, not only does Karasuno lose 80% of their offensive, but Hinata also loses all reason to even be on the court). so much that i felt sorry for poor Yachi who had to watch that.

The Pride of the Ace is on the Line .
I think it's okay to be greedy sometimes because you need an exact/full desire to even fulfill the goal you want to take . But I think you should believe more to your teammates . Working as a team , evolving as a team .
Nevertheless , The 'impossible' will become 'possible' .. perhaps ~ .

it's common that fighting takes place where two sides understand each other actually pretty well, that's probably one of the reason that brawl between kageyama and hinata happened. also they have come to a point where something needs to be done, everyone feels this way. great change comes with a great amount of effort. karasuno has yet to evolve to be able to stand a chance in the upcoming tournament. hinata's stepping in the right direction by taking the first step towards sharpening and attaining new skills.

This drama kills me. I just want the team to continue being humble and great. The feeling that one's selfishness might ruin the whole is really making me sweat. PLEASE GET ON WITH IT ALREADY.

Also, I never read the manga and I just started watching the anime like 2 weeks ago so let me be! 😂

While I can see that Hinata needs to improve and diversify to get anywhere, he's always come across as a little bit self-centered in his goals, I guess? More in the way he expresses them than in what they actually are.

Yachi didn't sign up for this shit lol.

In my honest opinion, Hinata is completely right. He realised the same thing, I did when he was blocked by Lev so quickly - he needs to evolve. His perfect hit with Kageyama's perfect toss isn't working out lately. If you noticed, they are mostly blocked, their combo isn't such effective, as it was ealier, because everyone knows, what is their ultimate weapon and all of the teams keep focusing on it, so they can finally be able to read and block it. Hinata also realises that and he tries to change, to get stronger, because, as he said - if his perfect strikes are read already, there's no need for him to stay on the court any longer. But everyone are too scared, because prelims or whateveritscalled starts in ONE month, so Hinata PROBABLY won't be able to learn something new and powerful so quickly. But if Lev got so strong even without any trainings, Hinata can become an ace in this one month, I totally believe in him. A good start for a new thing in the plot, episode was really GREAT, the feels were just perfect. Tl;dr, I just got too hyped.

everyone acknowledges that. however hintata cannot just jeopardize the team because he wants to get better. there is no way he can improve overnight - literally. the next match it not 3 months away.

i really liked the fight of hinata and kage. but first and foremost i really liked how they were not immediate friends in S1. it took them quite a while and even then they aren't like super close. i appreciate the writing in that. so for them to break up like this isn't making me think "OMG THEY WERE LIKE GONXKILLUA CLOSE WHAT WILL HAPPEN." they'll work it out.

Honestly...I can't help but feel annoyed by hinatas selfishness...sure he has to evolve. But I don't like that power struggle inside the team. Imo competition within a team breaks the mutual trust and jeopardizes their friendship... Why does he need to be the ace? Can he not just focus on making his team win? The way it comes across I feel like he is focussing on nothing but himself instead...

You're right but how are they supposed to win when their "ultimate" attack gets blocked time after time, people get used to it.
Their entire team knows that their crazy setup + spike is their strongest attack they have, just playing volleyball like they are right now isn't going to win them any matches anymore, even Oikawa figured it out during their last tournament, even Aone managed to block it and now even during the practice matches they managed to.

I dont think he's being entirely selfish but also thinks about the chances of their team making it anywhere.

Also they should really learn to evolve in other ways aswell, just like some teams have sick serves, combo's etc.

I watched this episode a long time ago, but I had to come back and watch it again to figure out why it bothered me so much.

When Hinata and Asahi collided like that, the first time I watched it, I was so angry. I was angry because I felt like the team was trying to stifle Hinata's abilities. I've hated Asahi ever since this episode and I've tried to deny it, but ever since he started to feel challenged by Hinata, I resented him.

It's like, Asahi's not even a good ace anymore. I'm sorry, and I hate to say it, but he's like the token Ace. He's ace because that was his past reputation, but now with Hinata and Kageyama on the team, there's hardly any room for him. And I'm saying this even after finishing Season 3. Asahi is just in the way.

If they gave Hinata more room to grow and expand, would he trample all over the team? Would his presence be more of a burden than anything else? Would he become arrogant like Kageyama and Oikawa and
and so many other bigheaded volleyball cretins he's had to face? Would he lose his innocence?

I just don't know, but I don't think verbally accosting him was the right approach. Because now it's like, will he be afraid to be strong after this? Will he have the confidence to express his full skillset or will he always have commit himself to the prison behind Asahi's shadow?

I like Hinata a lot. I like Haikyuu a lot. But even after rewatching this scene, I still don't like Asahi.

This episode hit me really hard. I suspected Hinata would try and push himself to an extreme and get greedy like this as I wrote but I didn't expect the complexity, the emotion, or the fights related with it to be like this.

I love Lev so much for some reason. He feels so real and genuine. His arrogant side makes him an antagonist but he isn't meanspirited and is more a source of good competition than villainy. His slouch, look, whip technique, and clear love of the game are all memorable. And this possibly bad influence he's having on Hinata is super interesting. He's a great supporting character.

Hinata is in a pickle right now. He's greedy out of desperation. He blames himself for their loss last season and he feels too weak to keep up with the stronger teams. Lev shutting down their freak quick and normal quick with Kenma's guidance was the last nail in the coffin. It's like he feels hopeless, how else could he push himself to high enough strengths to compete with Lev, Ushikawa, and the Little Giant himself? Well, with only a little time before the preliminaries he feels his only choice is to focus on his quicks and to play as hard as he can. To a degree that his subconscious tries to steal balls from Asahi to take the spotlight and creates tension in the team composition. Of course, this is a will to win that's controlling him but its a greedy will and it's also more than just winning, it's attached to his dream of being an ace too. And with someone like Lev showing him that he can become what he wants as long as he shows that "he is the best on the court" in the words of the Nekoma coach, his greeds overwhelming him. He's focusing on himself and not his team. He even said it was HIS fault they lost last season, not their fault. His feelings make sense, he feels useless and is latching onto these ideas fed into his head by Tanaka's sis, and Lev.

My favorite part of this mental hardship of Hinata's is that it's not clear that it's wrong. I'm sure he'll get a reminder that he's the ultimate decoy and have to accept that his role is to do that, not score insane freak quicks that are unbeatable. However, like the Nekoma coach said, this greed can spawn evolution. Yet, it's not clear if that evolution will be for the best or the worst. What we do know is the greed can and will push Hinata to new limits. And, even the Nekoma team is trying their hardest to find out what they need to improve. Because this is about Karasuno I assume Hinata will evolve for the best after getting over this, but it won't be as simple as him realizing that he should be less selfish.

Keep in mind both Ukai and the Nekoma coach has the realization that if this greed evolves into something amazing they could have something that pushes them to the next level, like if Hinata really does land the freak quicks with his eyes open.

The complexity of this dilemma is great. You can understand everyone's feelings completely and it made scenes like the Hinata and Kageyama fight sting so badly. Kageyama knows he's right and Hinata can't see it because of this need he has to fight against the hopelessness of staying as weak as he is currently. He needs to become stronger and be like his hero or how else will they keep up with the other teams. He should be focusing on other things and realizing forcing this in the short time they have isn't the way to go. I specifically felt so sad when Hinata said that Kageyama was a partner and that he felt they understood each other. They had a real physical fight over this and Hinata feels that he's drifted too far to be connected with Kageyama any more. It's so sad and this is all coming from Hinata's feeling of weakness and lack of direction on how to improve. You could see tears fall behind him as he biked away.

But, that all being said like the team suggested, they've hated each other once before. There's no reason they can't get over it this time too and grow even stronger because of that.

Going off a meta-narrative prediction I can't imagine Hinata will be replacing Asahi as the ace any time before the tournament and that he'll only reach the true Little Giant like ace position once Asahi graduates and he takes over the position.

this is definitely a turning point in this anime and a point I knew the characters would of had to have faced in order to become better. This episode was necessary and well thought out. I like how they did it. I can't blame Hinata for wanting to improve and it really is now or never.

hinata Tt__________tT

what an intense episode, i love the drama in this season, it's incredibly well-directed

also i think it goes way deeper than him just wanting to be the 'ace' of their team. yes it might have came off as selfish on his part to want to interrupt the game/start this late but really it's his passion his want his NEED to be better not just for himself but also for their team, this is a long series & as self-aware as they were, like what they said they just can't keep pulling the same tricks, he doesn't wanna be a one-trick pony too. i'm not one to shit on karasuno but they were really not living up during the previous practice match. that tension was so well brought forth!

I thought episode was alright, felt like Hinata has some stress though.

However, I liked the fact that it focused on a bit of the mechanics of their practice. Found that a bit neat. I think the episode's pacing felt a bit slow though in terms of progress but also important for the team to realize from their past experiences.

Should be a nice way for them to learn so they can use that knowledge in future games. I just love Hinata's determination though.

best episode in this season so far. though i'm kind of disappointed we haven't got any serious practice match to concentrate on, hinata sure knows how to steal the show.
from some reason i think the solution for hinata is opening his eyes only when he feeling the ball in his hand, considering him it should work(?).

oh and i feel yacha is much more essential character to this series now than kyoko.

Great episode.
I didn't expect Hinata and Kageyama to fight. But while I understand where Kageyama and the others are coming from, I have to agree with Hinata here.

Their freak quick won't work forever. It is already getting blocked by good teams. And, Hinata is basically a puppet for the team currently. He isn't improving. Kageyama telling him to not bring in his will in the quicks and to just close his eyes and hit the ball must have felt bad. He wants to improve too, like the others. Why must he shut up and depend on another player?

If this continues, when he finally graduates from High School, he won't be able to play without Kageyama on his team. He has the mindset and the talent to improve. The others and especially Kageyama don't believe in him. Which is sad and ironic since he is told to believe in Kageyama.

Kageyama and everyone else are just looking at the near future. Hinata improving is better in the long run for the team. Depending on the freak quick alone won't take Karasuno to the Nationals. They will keep on losing. Hinata is 100% in the right here.

That being said, I hope they hug it out and plan to improve together. The second season has been fantastic so far.
