just recently rewatched CG.....holy crap was he annoying.
In the beginning, it was just his level of OP-ness in his special boy custom lancelot that was super annoying. If they tried to portray war as serious business, the notion was wiped out by this clown. Every other character literally has to fight for their lives on the battlefield and suzaku shows by himself and is able to win a lopsided battle, thwart any strategic plans, all without even killing a single person. It gave him this moral high ground over everybody else, like "see? we can peacefully resolve without killing anyone and working within the system". Even his actual heinous "kills"(dropping a fleiya) couldn't even be blamed on him bc he could always just blame it on zero's "live" geass command. He foolish enough to want to be the shining example for elevens (can't believe he subjected himself and his people to that kind of dogshit treatment) to rise to power and respectablility within the britannian system. Ok ya sure, suzuku......just let us romance the nearest pink haired royal princess, have her knight us, and then sellout our childhood friend who happens to be a former britannian prince himself in order to get to rounds status....
And as everybody already knows, his character history is just littered with hypocrisy and contradictions. First it was about changing the system from within, until it wasn't, and he tried to overthrow Charles. He defiantly opposed Lelouch's "ends justify the means" philosophy until he decided to giving up a friend for a noble title was worthwhile and that nina's fleiya was a great idea after all. He called lelouch's geass "evil", "not allowed to exist", yet has no problem submitting him (and the student council) to the emperor's geass + memory wipe.
More than anything else, he was just a complete douchebag with zero loyalty. Lelouch saved his sorry ass from execution, and his payback was to betray him to the empire. He gains a title from the Charles and betrays him for schneizel, he acted like he was protecting nunally, but allowed her to get used like a puppet by schneizel, and finally he just betrays schneizel for lelouch.
literally, his only asset was being a really good devicer. He would've been much less annoying if he was appropriately the soldier that kallen or gino was. The problem was, the show tried to write him in as this philosophical counterpoint against lelouch when he consistently had no fucking idea what was going, and could never maintain his moral compass. It was much more interesting when they wrote in Schneizel and the Emperor as the counterpoints against lelouch because they actually stood for something, unlike suzaku's flip flopping ass. It just always felt like he was in the way, whether he was with or against lelouch. |
