I was just wondering what the taste of this board is. I suppose I expect a lot of Japanese artists and a solid amount of metal. Here are mine, at the moment:

Johann Sebastian Bach
King Crimson
Ludwig Van Beethoven
Genesis
Transatlantic / Neal Morse
Van der Graaf Generator
Miles Davis
Porcupine Tree
The Beach Boys
Maurice Ravel

On a different day this might include: Mozart, Bruckner, Gentle Giant, Soft Machine, U.K., Allan Holdsworth, Camel, The Flower Kings and a couple others. I'm into ambitious, grandiose and cathartic music with rich harmony and structure. I like music that feels like it's 'going somewhere', often passing through a variety of moods.

Let's see your choices and maybe a description of your taste/what links the artists you chose together (if anything).

Tool
Explosions in the Sky
World's End Girlfriend
Chicha Libre
Miles Davis
Massive Attack
Daft Punk
Buckethead
A Perfect Circle
Herbie Hancock

Tom Waits, Nirvana, Django Reinhardt, Buenavista Social Club, La Cherga, Jay-Z, Metallica, Porcupine Tree, Erykah Badu, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Paganini, Vivaldi and Bach an are very cool too.

While I like complex and kind of pretencious music, I don't discriminate, I've been listening some cumbia lately and rap too.

I really like fusion artists too.

I don't really have a top 10, just stuff I feel like listening to depends on the mood! I pretty much love all music genres, but here are 10 that I can think of the top of my head.

Amon Amarth
Dir En Grey
Morbid Angel
Fall Out Boy
Behemoth
Nirvana
Cannibal Corpse
Lana Del Rey
Metallica
B.A.P

I have so many more that I love .__. I just fucking love music man.

American Football
Mineral
Wormrot
Basement
Yiruma
Joyce Manor

Still venturing into math rock and screamo genre, a long way to go. Only tapped the surface of grind music too.

I would dig classical music too but I don't know where I should start.
I love Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no.2 way too much.

Aye, not too keen on some names of artists and bands. But it's the music that speaks to me. Image and name are nothing compared to what to a song can make you feel - just my opinion anyway :)

Its hard picking a top 10 but atm it would be something like this.

1. Can
2. David Bowie
3. Black Sabbath
4. Queen
5. Judas Priest
6. The Beatles
7. Simon and Garfunkle
8. The Residents
9. Throbbing Gristle
10. Swans

Again its a hard choice.

Queens of the Stone Age
Aesop Rock
Cannibal Ox
Swans
Amon Tobin
Fugazi
My Bloody Valentine
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
MF DOOM
Nine Inch Nails

Sort of changes depending on what I'm into at the time. On a bit of a hip-hop kick at the moment. I was lucky enough to see GY!BE live at the beginning of last year, which was a magical experience. Also saw Neutral Milk Hotel at the end of 2013, which could potentially make the list depending on what mood I'm in.

all time favorites:
1. Dystopia
2. Acid Bath
3. Skaven
4. Rudimentary Peni
5. Noothgrush
6. Amebix
7. Vektor
8. Peste Noire
9. The Body
10. Igorrr

it's pretty hard to make a top 10.. tot 5 is easier. also listen to more heavy/speed metal and NWOBHM at the moment and not as much sludge or crust. but those remain my all time favorite genres.
might be easier for me to make top 5 or 10 lists of each seperate genre since i allways feel i leave out to many genres i listen too..

PJ Harvey

Radiohead
Ashbury Heights

Gorillaz
Autumn's Grey Solace

Boards of Canada
Cult of Luna

Not necessarily representative of everything I listen to, nor what I'm currently most into. Best to check my last.fm for that.

I figured most people know of them or well at least some of their songs but yeah very rare you hear them getting praised or listed as someone's favorite band. Funny how MTV used money for nothing as a way to advertise themselves when the song was mocking the MTV generation lol.

saw Cult Of Luna some time ago. pretty nice. been needing to buy one of their albums for a long time now, still never happened..
saw them on the same day as Amenra and Neurosis. gotta say, Neurosis whern't that good. (might have been the shitty sound quality during their set) was expecting a bit more of them.

I like the whole list but these two in particular are great, original picks. Banco and PFM get close to my top ten sometimes.

I'm slightly surprised at the lack of Japanese artists so far, but maybe the people into that stuff only like/know about 5 bands, zehaha... Anyway, I'm seeing more classical picks than on say, RYM. Also, perhaps a bigger focus on 'brutal' music and less indie, which is fine by me.

I know quite a bit of Japanese artists such as Loudness, Seikiman II, Bow Wow/Vow Wow, X Japan, Sabbat, Acid Mothers Temple, and Led Ralizes Denudes. I didn't put any on my top 10 but Can had Japanese singer if that counts for anything.

same here. theres lots of great bands from all over the world. can only pick 10 bands/artist for the list so a lot of country's happen to be excluded in my list. japan happened to be one of those.
but i think he/she mainly refered to anime related stuff anyway. highly doubt they would be supprized about Corrupted not being mentioned yet.

I like some X Japan. My favorite Japanese artists are probably soundtrack people like Koji Kondo, Joe Hisaishi, Shiro Sagisu, Motoi Sakuraba, Yoko Kanno etc. Other favorites are in the prog and fusion vein like Kenso, Mr. Sirius, Asturias and Mongol. Motoi Sakuraba also made some music in that style, partly in his old band Deja-Vu.

I was mainly thinking J-pop and J-rock, not necessarily featured in anime. I see a lot of mention of that stuff otherwise on this board.
