Hiromi was spiteful, selfish and difficult. Noe was openly loving, caring and selfless.

Oooh, tough decision.

Noe is better but Shinichiro should be with Hiromi as it was in anime. Too bad theres no 2nd season: would be good to pair Noe with equal guy(and not her brother, yeah)

Hiromi. I sympathize with her. She has to live that her mother was the bad person. Shin's mom doesn't make anything better treating her like a slave. I'd probably be emotionless around Shin's family too.

True Tears
NEETs (No Employment Education Training) are the least desirable people anybody would want to hire and yet they are the first choice to become moderators/admins around the internet. They have yet to have established a sense of responsibility or role in society and many are plain leeches (with minor exceptions). They are given "authority" to police sections of the internet with the powers of The Judge, Jury, and Executioner. Isn't that weird?

The only appeal they seem to have tried to give Hiromi was pity; her parents are dead, her life is so hard living with this woman who hates her and thinking the boy she loves is related to her. Well, so what? Fine, it'd be cool if her life got better, but having a hard life doesn't make her likable. The opposite; I find her to be a dreary person because of all the moping she does.

It doesn't help that in the rare cases that she gets active, she's pretty selfish and ruthless. Again, these are understandable but nonetheless unpleasant. If she were likable there would be a tension between this attraction and the repulsiveness of her actions, but since she's a bore, they just make her an ugly bore.

I initially didn't like Noe because weird, childish girls are a cliche in romantic drama anime (because of Kanon and other Key-based shows, probably), but she turned me around when she proved to be oddly perceptive and philosophically pure-minded. Her childishness wasn't pushed nearly so hard as with some I've seen, either (the girl in Air comes off as downright retarded).

The clincher for why I prefer Noe is that her story is a love story; we see Noe and Shin fall in love. Hiromi and Shin's story isn't about love, it's about contrived obstacles; they're related! (but they're not), she's dating another boy! (who doesn't care about her), she tries to run away! (but doesn't get far). It's just soap opera. We're told they're in love and then there's a bunch of angst for like ten episodes and then they (literally ) fall into each other and it's over. Actual romantic drama of any kind looks pretty good when set next to mere pulp.

While I don't think this story works very well, it isn't irredeemably broken so a sad ending for Noe isn't in of itself bad. But since I like Noe much more, I'd have preferred a story about Shin moving on from this childhood crush which has come to weigh him down. It would be at least equally interesting as what we did get and would have the added plus of going against the usual grain; Japanese romance is obsessed with childhood connections.

Hiromi was selfish the entire time. It took her a year while living with Shin and ignoring him to realize she loved him. While Noe always believed in him the entire time and was the reason why he wanted to draw. She also did try to do anything sneaky like Hiromi did. Ex. Trying to become friends with Shin's friends. NOE ALL THE WAY!!!!

I actually hate Hiromi. She's selfish, boring, and has no likeable characteristics whatsoever. For the final 4 episodes I was hoping so much he'd choose Noe, and I cried when he told her he loved Hiromi. As much as the rest of the anime was great, that bit ruined it.

Noe. I don't even want to think about Hiromi. I seriously stopped watching right when episode 9 happened, looked up the wiki for the description of the episodes, hoped in desperation that she still had a chance, and dropped this anime when I found out it didn't end that way. I honestly wished that motorcycle would've exploded and taken Hiromi out of the picture.

Also throughout the entire show, there were many words said that would horrify some people and many a middle finger.

Noe was the only reason I watched this till the end, but it ended the right way, because she deserves someone better than Shinichiro (he never loved her anyway). She is a great character and not only deserves a better boyfriend but also a better anime.

Noe at first, but after watching the show over again, Hiromi deserved it more than anyone else, hands down, I'm sure if everyone watched the show again as objectively as they can, they will agree as well. I guarantee it.

You took the words out of my mouth. Noe had almost the same sad past as Hiromi. But she's not going emo over it. The "love" between Hiromi and Shin is boring as fuck. Can't believe why someone prefer Hiromi. Even the useless Ai is better. Because you have a sad past doesn't mean you can act sad and bitchy all the time.

i think its tough to choose cause most people like noe better cause she was less of a bitch, but i think hiromi was just misunderstood and she had alot of reasons not to get close to him for all those years. In the end i think most people would pick the girl they loved since childhood

Here is my opinion on it. FIRST off, I loved this anime so much and I've seen countless romance/dramas. Surprisingly, I didn't cry as much in this anime as I have for others but maybe it's because I've built immunity or resistance? NAH, im still a softy x)

Anyways, I kept going back and forth between Noe and Hiromi. In Shin's perspective, it is best to be with Hiromi because they are close to each other literally and have moved closer figuratively after hiromi decided to move out. I admit, it is a boring relationship but they know each other well and they constantly visit one another. Also, Shin is finally and the only one to be able to wipe Hiromi's tears away.

As a viewer and as a person, I fell for Noe. She has a different perspective on life, speaking through metaphors which catches my attention because I find that more interesting. The story of raigomaru and Jibeta was also catchy and it felt like SHE is the one that would make life meaningful and out of the ordinary. In my opinion, she has a much livelier personality than Hiromi (or at least what is shown from the anime)

Just try to imagine True Tears without Noe.

Shin would never draw that story
The question of them being siblings probably wouldn't be resolved
Hiromi would never take a lead
Shin would've stayed helpless kid and would never grow as a person

Basically, it would've been one of the most boring series out there. Noe was the life of the show. Still, Hiromi was kind of hotter, so I guess I ... nope, Noe.
