We've had a few discussions in the club comments, but I thought it would be fun to declare some characters (or pairs of lovers) the antithesis of what this club looks for. This isn't meant to be heated debate, but a discussion poking fun at all those boobless girls with man parts out there. ;)

I'll start with an obvious one, a more obscure one, and an opinionated one. Post whatever you'd like.

--Ayase from Okane ga Nai
AARG. That's all I can say.

--Tasuna from Utsushimi no Hana.
Looking at the cover, it's probably obvious. This story could have been exactly the same if Tasuna was a woman. This is despite the fact he was learning metalworking, a typically manly craft.

--Misaki from Junjou Romantica.
I've ranted about him at least once in the comments, so I should include him. Recapping, I think he's immature, quick to both cry and get angry like a child, and gets jerked around a lot (bad joke? lol) by his lover.

Yeah, really annoying...and I think he takes the worst of women...well, I have only seen like one chapter..I couldn't stand that.

Huh? Isn't that a woman? hahaha.

I'll add Yuuen from Wild Rock...really, that manga had so much potential with the art and caveman stuff but as soon as I saw him I went Aarrgh!

Same goes for that uke from After I win..I think that goes for all those cry-baby ukes that have no interesting trait, I mean they can be kind of delicate..but why is he crying always? for everything..

There is also that uke from Zaiaku wa Hada no Ue ni, he is older than the seme but he act like a little girl! how annoying, I don't know if it's worse that the bishie ukes acting and looking like girls...

Although I loved Wild Rock (I actually don't hate all girly guys out there), I'd also love to have a true manly caveman story versus this cutesy comedic one. I've not come across one yet though. I wonder why.. men being real men, life full of mostly base desires (survival, lust, etc ;) ) all while running around in loin clothes. It could work out well haha.

That is what I am talking about!! haha..it is not like I hate all girly ukes either, but there are some that really get on my nerves..and that is one.

Enemies, hehehe!!! I'm in!

I would definitely add:

- Coco from Pico x CoCo x Chico. Well actually I guess I could include all three of them, but Coco is the antitheme of manlyness. In fact. I did not get that he was a boy until I saw his ... well you know... I still suspect it might have been fake ....

I will think about more.

I haven't watched Pico x CoCo x Chico yet but I've watched Boku no Pico. And I can't believe that someone would be girlier than him. If I hadn't downloaded that OVA from aarinfantasy, I wouldn't have known either. Actually, I was in doubts while I was watching (like, maybe they uploaded a different file) and then I saw it.

I don't really hate Girly Ukes but it just so happens that I like stories with manry ukes better. 8D

Adding:

1. Minami Haruka's ukes.
2. Mira from Papa to Kiss in the Dark
3. Sono-san from Sensitive Pornograph
4. Shuichi from Gravitation anime

this.
Sadly, I started reading yaoi in the wrong sub-genre and picked Haruka Minami's works first, I decided to stop reading for a while until I dug deep enough to find the good stuff.

I suggest Morimura Yuuki from Fujimi Orchestra, such an unmanly man.

Tsuburaya Norio from Sex Pistols anyone?? As much as I love the manga that character is so feminine every time I see him in a scene it makes me cringe lol. Not only does he look like a girl but acts like one as well. I don't know if it has to do with the plot of the manga being they are supposed to be animal spirits and one is supposed to take the masculine role and the other is supposed to take the feminine roll but Norio acts just to girlie.

hehe!
I agree with you. I really like Sex Pistols - it's hilarious and funny. You can't take it serious - well, at least I hope no one does, but it is great fun if you switch your brain into the "off" modus. I enjoy reading it, but Norio is a girl with the appendix at the wrong place! Oh, and all the seme are quite out of this world as well. Überhunky Testosterone-driven sexmaniacs.

On an afterthought... does the seme not even call Norio his "bitch". I think that says it all ...

Haha, yeah, the pink was ridiculous. However, he wasn't exactly feminine (besides the cross dressing... wtf?), and at least he was the one who craved attention and sex. Although I guess acting like a puppy isn't really the same as being a man.

So true... When I first saw her works my thoughts were like: "WTF? I downloaded files tagged as 'YAOI' not 'HENTAI', or am I mistaken? ZOMG, my eyes !!!"

Well then, I guess I'll take my vent on Sano from Sukisyo. Or just the whole damn series for that matter.

Kanbe Akira typically ranges from bad to very, very average. She's been around for a while though, so I tend to be a little forgiving because I read her stuff earlier on in my BL days, like how I used to be forgiving of Minami Haruka. But forgiving still nets about average for Kanbe Akira. :3

I'm in agreement with shinkeikaku. She draws mostly two varieties of ukes: Uber feminine and very young looking. I can remember at least one manga she drew where a scene with the uke shirtless looks as though he has very small breasts. Nuh-uh. I am so not into that. The stories themselves aren't that great either. More than one manga has dialogue so cheesy, I wanted to punch the uke. If you ask why I read so many of her works when I seem to dislike them so much, I won't be able to give you a good answer. LOL. There were one or two manga which I thought were cute regardless though :P

As long as I'm posting in this thread I may as well bring up more names of mangaka writers you shouldn't read if you hate girly ukes.

Be careful with Itsuki Kaname. She has drawn several ukes which look like they are 12 or younger. It's great if you love shota but not so great if you don't. But let me say that Me de Shireru Yoru no Junjou, a manga she did the art for, is one of my favorites. The seme and the uke both look like girls, but that is necessary for this type of story to work.

Another one I have to mention is Hiiro Reiichi even though one of her mangas is listed in the club. Most of her mangas have ukes that are very pretty and feminine and oh so easy. It's rather laughable. In Apron de Choushoku wo, the uke gets fired from his position in a company and finds happiness in being a housemaid, so yeah, not especially manly ukes here.

CJ Michalski is another one who draws really shota-esque ukes as well as hard-core shota.

Oh! But the one manga that has everything this community is against would have to be Map of Tokyo Savage and its sequel A Passage from Servant Boy by Dr. Ten.But if you want to see men getting pregnant, men with real breasts, men with fake breasts in very convincing drag, repeated sex scenes between the main character and a boy who looks like he's 5 years old, and MEN GETTING TENTACLE-RAPED, then this is just the thing for you. Although to be fair, there are tons of reversi characters. Hehe! Just to set the record straight, I do not like shota, but I did enjoy reading this manga enough to kinda ignore it. >_> I mean, a manga this off the wall is just too much for me not to read.

I read the manga because I love the art and the humor can be good, but Izumi... girly deluxe! And it's definitely messed up (though not even among the most messed up ones I've read... does that make me messed up? O.o)

I wouldn't be able to answer that question; I've yet to encounter a manga that I've felt 100% comfortable with discussing in front of my friends.

You know, I wasn't that disappointed in Shuchi from Gravitation. I first tried to watch Gravitation a while ago, and was immediately turned off by the pink hair, the whiny personality, the tacky clothes, and the boring love interest. But then one day I tried watching it again out of sheer, concentrated boredom, and was actually able to conquer pass the first episode.

What made Shuichi slightly bearable was (as someone on here already mentioned) that he was the aggressive and sex-initiating partner. Most stereotyped uke aren't actually clingy - they cry a lot, but they mostly make halfhearted attempts to leave their seme. Shuichi chases his seme though; a complete 180 to the typical uke being the prey. AND Shuichi dressed up as a girl because HE wanted to; Yuki was horrified. Usually the seme is always forcefully dressing their uke as girls (why when they are supposed to be gay men, I have no idea).

Plus, as annoying as Shuichi can be sometimes, it's because his PERSONALITY is annoying. Not his effeminate ways.

That's my take.

Against all odds, I may be one of the few people in the universe who actually likes Ayase and finds Okane ga nai to be hilariously wrong but all the funnier for that.

Ayase's fey looks are mocked in universe which makes it easier to forgive. Then again the entire manga is a parody of yaoi common places so it figures its main uke should be exceedingly girly. And to his credit, while he never does become manly Ayase is surprisingly capable of taking action for the sake of others. This becomes more pronounced in the manga so it figures that anime only viewers would not know (or care). At one point Ayase stands up to a couple of ruffians to protect Someya's 'girls' and in volume 8

But I admit I'm bias, I just happen to like Ayase even though it's a type of character I usually dislike with a passion.

As for Shuichi, he does get very grating that's more because he is constantly 'Yuuuki'ng' every second syllable. It gets highly annoying.
