| Product placement is an old technique, and if done creatively it can add to the show. I've seen it in some anime series, but it is usually nothing more than a brief appearance in a scene. In this form, it isn't too annoying, but it doesn't really add anything. People who want to learn how to do product placement right should listen to Jack Benny's radio shows from the time when Lucky Strike was his sponsor (1944-1955); the commercial in the middle of the program is seamlessly integrated into the show's narrative, and it is often the highlight of the episode. Creatively integrating the product into the show is the best way to handle it, and it can add a lot, especially in comedy programs. |
