Steins;Gate. Definitely one of the better anime this year, and perhaps my all time favourite. Either way, really something I recommend watching soon.

I've heard good things about Aria, but haven't actually watched that myself so I can't really recommend it. I do plan watching it very soon though.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days- great film, and if you liked Shinkai's other work you should enjoy it

Natsume series- awesome slice of life series with great characters.

Usagi Drop- another awesome and heart warming slice of life (and it's only 11 episodes).

You also have One Outs, Shiki, Voices of a Distant Star, Haruhi movie and many other great anime on your list.

steins;gate but the person above me already recommended that to you. shakugan no shana is another good choice seeing that the last of the series is airing this season. lots of action and drama/romance if you're in to that kind of anime.

@TowardTheStars

You seem to have you eye on some pretty good stuff; I don't think there's anything on your PTW that I wouldn't recommend (unless I haven't seen it). That said, the list of anime I would recommend the most would go as follows:

Mawaru Penguindrum- Could be my favorite anime of 2011 so far (that's a tall order considering we got Madoka Magica and Steins; Gate, another you should watch, this year). This gets my biggest recommendation, although I could be biased by the fact that is the show I'm watching right now, nevertheless, very though provoking.

Anything Miyazaki is a must watch. Don't ignore Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, or Nausiscaa

There is no way you won't enjoy Kaiji or Eden of The East. If anything they are at least, very fun.

Serial Experiments Lain, Akira, and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei are pretty good, but you need to be in the right frame of mind to enjoy it properly. (Save these for when you feel artsy-fartsy)

@Angel_Beats

That first episode of Mirai Nikki was pretty Boss. Check it out.

Watch Penguindrum. I cannot get tired of recommending this to anyone. Mystery, intrigue, comedy, romance, symbolism, allusion, penguins, suspense, danger, penguins, randomness (but in a deliberate way), and penguins, this anime has it all.

Kara no Kyoukai 5 is the best one, don't miss it.

FLCL is my all-time favorite; it goes without mention that I would recommend it. What's cool about this anime is that you can enjoy it at almost any level. It could be a really deep story about puberty, coming of age, etc..., or it can be about robots hitting each other in the face.

Welcome to the NHK is a brilliant, brilliant dark comedy with a loveable cast of nutcases and strong social commentary.

Mawaru Penguindrum is the best currently airing anime right now, I definitely suggest watching it.

@JudoJon:

Kimi ni Todoke 2nd Season: Since you've already seen the first season, you definitely should check this season out. Things wrap up in this season. Sawako is her same awkward self. :P

Natsume Yuujinchou: Ohmygosh, this show is a masterpiece. I bet you, one episode and you will be hooked.

My Neighbor Totoro: A classic. I'm kinda surprised you've never seen this before - it's a touching story.

Wolf's Rain: The plot is unique. You'll be on the edge of your seat when you watch this show! :D

MAL says we have a "Very High" compatibility. That means that my suggestions are mathematically more likely to agree with you.

Watch Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei; at the very least, I can say you have never seen anything like it before. It's got the manic energy of FLCL and an eye for color and composition befitting any work by Shaft or Akiyuki Shinbou.

@gigglingidiot
You have a lot of good stuff here; it would almost be easier to say what you shouldn't watch, but that's cheating.

Anime that stands out includes:

-Death Note (it's just very surprising to see such a popular anime on someone's PTW). The show itself is worth a look. It isn't very deep but the execution is near flawless, if you ignore the slightly less good late episodes.

-Haruhi (see Death Note). The only fault I can give this show is the Endless Eight (but you can just turn that into the Endless Four and you would still get the gist of it, and besides, the movie kind of validates Endless Eight out of how amazing it is).

- NHK: This is something of a must-watch. I command you to watch it.

-Beck: This will remind you of the power of youth, dedication, and taking the future and putting in your hands.

-Gurren Lagann: If Beck is dedication, then Gurren Lagann is passion. Every frame of this anime is dripping with it and damned if it isn't contagious.

@ Angel_Beats :

Natsume Yuujinchou - Definitely a great watch. I first started the series around two years ago and just kind of stopped watching after 2 episodes for no apparent reason and recently picked it back up again since a new season came out and I figured that it had to be good for all three seasons to rank so high. It kind of dies down when you get to the next two seasons, but in my opinion I thought that this had a really genuine feel about it and it was also a really relaxing watch.

Ookiku Furikabutte - Ah Oofuri. How many times have I rewatched this? ... Probably only once, regardless, I thought that it was an amazing series. I've never been much of a fan of watching sports, but I always found every episode to be fairly exciting and it never really left you bored.

First, let me start of by saying Death Note isn't that overrated as you claim. The first half is considered a masterpiece for a reason...

On to the topic:
Gintama. It's pretty inconsistent, but some episodic parts are better than Bebop, I would say.
One Piece. As you know, the beginning is "meh" for some, "horrible" for others. But I still like it very much.

Beck-- Awesome coming-of-age story about forming a band and making a music, written by someone who is an obvious music enthusiast.

FLCL-- 6 episodes of insane creativity with a simple but effective story at its core; eye-pooping visuals and a rockin' soundtrack.
