I always download for the reasons listed below-

1) Better quality
2) Easy to take screen shots
3) I can easily re-encode into any other format (for putting on mobile devices, etc)
4) Archiving
5) They are portable (can take to other computers with a flash drive etc.)
6) They are always there when you want them.

Lastly is a reason that is a little less about what is better for viewing but a difference between DL and stream;

- Older and lesser known series are much easier to find via torrent / DDL.

EDIT- And I forgot, NO ADS, also, you can watch stuff you have already downloaded with out an internet connection. For example, if I am going out of town or somewhere that I know I wont have a good connection or any connection at all, I can just bring all the anime I want with me on my laptop.

I stream for two reasons. One, my Interwebs connection is good and I have zero issues with buffering. Two, I'm too scared to download - afraid of viruses and whatnots.

Same as my reasons for streaming.

Sure, I have a great anti-virus, but better to be safe than sorry. Besides, I am not terribly fussed with quality, so 9 times out of 10 I am fairly content with what I am watching.

I'd stream it. I mean after you've watched an episode, whats the use of keeping it?

Saying 720p stream looks horrible to download is a bad comparison as I suppose you are comparing 2 different videos.

EVERY stream site out there lowers the bitrate of uploaded videos in order to save bandwidth. Downloading is basically always superior to stream.

EVERY

As far as I know, that's not true. There are even 1080p.

Youtube is a streaming site just for example. It provide 1080p service. Some videos are up to 3-4Mbps bitrate. Far better than most 720p you download.

And streaming = downloading, but you use browser download to you browser cache. Saying streaming always has lower quality is similar to saying files from BT always have better quality than DDL.

Those streamed versions are always the download version uploaded there, so stream can't be better quality. Also, Youtube(or any other streaming site) has to convert the original file to .flv and when converting there is ALWAYS a quality loss. So every download is always superior when comparing to the corresponding stream version, though it may not be that noticeable.

Besides Youtube quickly takes down copyrighted material so more often than not your streams are from MegaVideo or other SD streaming site that doesn't give a f- about copyrights.

I am a quality freak. I have a 52 inch HDTV and I need to watch everything in HD(preferably 1080p). TS files are the way to go for currently airing series. BDMVs are great for finishes series.

I can't discuss any further if you don't understand flv is just a container
i deliberately avoid listing those sites other than youtube for copyright issues
They can stream BD materials if they wish.
Streaming is a method not a video, and not a website. There's no upper limit on streaming quality. The limit is set by the website like their encode config.

FLV is a container, however, its not the ORIGINAL container. That is what he is saying. You cant re-encode something and retain 100% quality.

Anyway- I think the biggest arguments against streaming is there are no ads, and you dont need an internet connection to view (assuming you have already downloaded the files)

For people who dont care about quality, it really doesnt matter. It doesnt matter what one person considers acceptable quality and what isnt. Its the OTHER issues are the main points.

Whoops, my bad, still my point stands. Stream is never in better quality than downloadable alternative. And BD quality stream is REALLY rare.

both, but i pick streaming because it's a bit easier. for download, it takes longer (my bandwith kinda sucks), plus i only download when i can't find any streams for the show i wanna watch.

If you download you can get the best quality around...

Tbh I stream to check out the first few episodes of an anime and if I like it a lot then I start to download the rest...

It's totally up to you though.

personally find downloading much better in video and audio quality besides more convenient since if you lose the internet you will still be able to watch anime

and its pretty safe especially if you use anime only sites like Tokyotosho,Nyaatorrents and Bakabt...speed depends on the torrent so it varies

It's safe. But if you want stay even safer get them from one of the well rated fansub group's site.

Episode sizes range from 400 to 100mb do the math.

Or just look on BakaBT for a reliable source of downloads.

~250-500mb per episode, I'd say, for 720p.

Personally i usually stream the anime, than download it, than buy it in that order. The reason i stream first is to make sure i actually like it, so i watch the fist couple episodes streamed. than i download it so i can finish the series, than once i have enough money i buy it to support the companies that make it!

And also so its on my display shelf of all the animes I have, more for collecting and supporting purposes!!! ^)^

You might also want to try http://nyaa.eu . it's a torrent site for Anime/Manga/JMusic and other Japan-related stuffs.

Honestly I prefer torrent than DDL, because you can just leave your DLs in a queue, and even if your internet stopped working, you can still continue the download when you get your connection back.

A few weeks back i used to always stream, but afterwards I started downloading, no reason to it actually, well I did get hard drive space to let me download, but if i had to name the big differences i saw it would be:

Streaming is faster(well for me), I'll watch more anime compared to downloading
Downloading is easier(well for me again) cause sometimes web browsers get problems.. and shockwave crashes or something, and i get a huge irritation when a video i streamed doesn't work, or loads till like half way and stops loading

but currently i think i'll go with downloading, cause i like the easier part, and i can trade anime with my mates:)

Downloading is much better....especially if you have an internet usage limit. Why stream when you can download and keep a show with much better quality? Even if you dont want to keep the show, you can always delete it later rather than ruin your eyes watching shitty 360p quality BS they have on streaming sites.

I personally prefer downloading. In fact, I've never watched anime in streaming.

If I download Raws, It provides the best quality of video and audio, which means I don't have to be bothered at the quality and just can enjoy the show. But I also find downloading can be pretty tiresome to do when I'm tired.

Downloaded videos are always the way to go in my opinion. With ffdshow filters you can make your videos look the way you want. If you watch anime long enough you will start to crave quality as well. That being said I did stream anime in the past but stopped quickly.

I used to dl whatever I was watchin but at some point I was watching too much to spend my time dling and I started streaming and I still do . The quality ofc is nothing like dling but some are better than others and I decided that I'll only dl series/epis that I rly adore . Too lazy to dl anything I watch x) Streaming is just the fast way and I like eet except if I can't find any decent at least quality . For example , I kinda hate fb vids and sometimes megaupload cause they blur the vid and that sux -.-

you can also download ongoing animes..

for me I download animes, but the problem with downloading is the space(it Eats many Mb space in your hardrive)

I hate streaming... Why?:

1. Mega upload video players..(has time limits shit)

2.Need internet to replay a certain episode

3. Need registration(for Some websites though..)

Unlike downloading, Best quality , replay all you want with no internet as long as you have your laptop or desktop with you.

I used to stream anime. For those in countries without a lot of bandwidth, it's good (I'm in Canada - east coast, so I'm very lucky to have unlimited bandwidth and a fast connection.)

After watching a full series in 1080p (Clannad and ~After Story~) I can say that well, I'm not going to be streaming anime unless it's a last resort :)

Even at 720p (which has a fairly low file size and awesome quality, so it's a great compromise), the quality is so much better that it's worth it.

In this day and age, obtaining torrents is normally not very hard (with BakaBT, and Googlefu, you'll find anything.)

I heard google put some sort of torrent block on a few days ago.. Although you can use sites like torrentz or isohunt, they're like "google torrent search engines". (well you shouldnt really be using public trackers if your a paranoid person but i personally tgink is fine)
Or you can just use nyaatorrents for anime-only material.

I do a bit of both.

I stream when I can find the shows on Crunchyroll or Funimation but I buy or download everything else. My only issue with streams has been with stability but generally they're just fine.

Streaming is good (If you stream to you TV) but if you cant find the anime on on a streaming service like Netflix, Download because you get best quality and no buffering.
If you have an xbox360 or PS3 downloading is the best in my opinion because you can put the download on a flash drive and watch it on one of those.

I download animes.
If size is too big, i encode myself with megui to reduce size.
i.e. Thora's animes are too big. (720p movies are 4GB)

Stream is not choice. If you can't find download link, you can watch online. Otherwise you must download animes.
