| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- Building up the loving family in the beginning had purpose, that's for sure. The reunion of Ami and her brother as she melted in the rain had weight. Ami turning to the dark side, denouncing the false notion of beauty in the world and joining Alabaster completely, even killing, it may be extreme! But, tethering that to a heartfelt relationship of siblings, a brother who chased her visible butt around and called her beautiful as she was, and then sought revenge against Rock!!! That's emotional, it had me invested. The melting was another incredible aspect of Ami's design of course, and let's hope the seemingly uncorruptible Ami who lost her way can be saved by her bro. And as extreme as the morality is in this, Rock Holmes being a sexual assaulting, dog kicking, racist narcissist, and Alabaster being a hate-filled terrorist disfiguring and murdering innocents, it does paint the good and bad as the exact same. That is what I think Alabaster's point is, that he's exposing the ugliness that everyone and every system in the world hides, embracing the true nature without facade himself. We have middle grounds like Gen and Kanihei, those who choose to embrace conflict but only against 'warped societies and greedy crooks', not indulging their hatred for their own whims. |
