MAL Members Against Touhou Characters in Saimoe

Welcome to the MAL Members Against Touhou Characters in Saimoe club! Also known as MALMAT ;)



The Creed
With the release of the Touhou Musou Kakyou, touhou characters are now officially eligible for International Saimoe 2009. We, the members of this club, object. We, the members of this club, swear to defend the sanctity of International Saimoe League, and all future Saimoe competitions should they include touhou characters, with all our honest abilities. We take this stance because of the following:

• Touhou characters do not originate from an official anime. They originate from one marginally known OVA that was fan made. This OVA is not in the MAL database nor is it easily accessible
  
• Touhou characters draw all their popularity from sources outside of the OVA they allegedly represent. While the members of this club in no way believe that moe should be factored exclusively from anime, we do believe that moe, especially in saimoe competitions, should be factored mostly or at least partially from anime. The touhou OVA is of zero importance to the touhou franchise and gains its characters zero independent popularity.
  
• While it may increase participation in saimoe voting, there is a very real possibility that touhou characters will dominate the contest, and future contests to come. Touhou characters have a distinct advantage because of an established and avid fanbase (read: fanboys) due to the fact that touhou is a game, not an anime
  
• In general, the touhou OVA lacks quality. The sole reason the OVA is watched is because of the inclusion of touhou characters. The OVA should bring popularity to its characters, not the other way around. Thus the inclusion of touhou characters in International Saimoe League 2009 is a travesty and a loophole.

Visitors who agree with any of the four points above are welcome to join the club. You can still be a touhou fan and join this club. After joining the club, be sure to head down to the forum and pledge your vote against touhou characters. This club believes that touhou characters do not belong in saimoe contests and its members wish to protect the sanctity of these contests. The club takes no specific stance on touhou characters themselves.

Other visitors are free to post on our wall or forums. We encourage constructive discussion. We can disagree without being disagreeable. Also feel free to share your other thoughts about Saimoe competitions here. :)

As more members join we will discuss more about what exactly this club is going to do and our official stance on touhou in the current Saimoe league.
