Dark Gothic animation when the story heads into the other world, intricate designs for the fighting girls outfits, not to mention dreams and erasing pain... the Anime are very similar in tone.

While there are some parallels between the plot lines and characters, the most striking similarity between these two shows is in the atmosphere. There is good comradery between the the characters and a gentle kindness that eminates from the protagonist of both shows. However, despite that there is a nagging creepiness which hangs in the background and a sense that all is not quite as it may first appear. The definitions of good and evil, write and wrong, seem to become complicated an lost in the varied perspectives of the characters.

Both Anime are featuring a male protagonist encountering a girl with supernatural abilities. They also share the setting in an another world and are produced by J.C. Staff. Merry also kinda reminds me of Shana

Gothic anime geared towards a female audience with bright colors and a surreal other world only a select few can go into. There is a lot of angst and losing what one holds important and for each it is different.

While both series of the supernatural have different plots and stories, one thing I found to be very similar was each others character design and atmosphere. If you liked the art and animation of Soul Eater, then you will most likely enjoy Yumekui Merry.

-Both animes are about working with their one and only partner that they searched or met coincidentally to be able to fight after getting involved -Both builds a deep bond between the two

Bleach has Shinigami and Hollows, Yumekui Merry has Dreams. Hollows who escape from Hueco Mundo are bad, and Dreams who escape the Dreamworld are bad. During Yumekui Merry, there are times when the exact same music from Bleach is used. Not all Dreams are bad though. Some of them fight against other Dreams to protect humans, like Shinigami do to Hollows.

Both series feature "master-servant" relationships where an ordinary human being is paired with a character who possess superhuman abilities. The pair is bounded, and the death of either side will greatly affect the other. Battles occur behind the scenes, yet the the consequences are seen in the real world. There are mystery elements in both cases, and character backgrounds are slowly unraveled through battles.

Dreams and memories, the loss and gain of them. The Anime have similar styles and similar tones. There is also a lot of comedy built in along with the angst.

Both are directed by Yamauchi Shigeyasu and because this is some noticeable similarities between these two Animes, like dark scenaries and the protagonists which are wandering looking for answers to their existence.

The Main characters look very much alike Both shows have a 'Tachibana' who both look alike (hair, eyes, politeness etc.) Both anime have the same feel to them bought about by the illuminating colour schemes They don't have over stylised fight scenes They're both very light-hearted (exception Angel Beats at the end) And of course mysterious girl introduces main character to whole new world

There was a very similar feeling between the two, to me at least. But, both are supernatural, action, comedies. Dream Eater Merry was more action oriented, where Kore wa Zombie desu ka seemed to focus more on the humor, and falls in to the harem genre.

Although both series have different premises, they have fantasy themes involving a main male protagonist who gets involved with supernatural beings. In both series, there is action, drama, and comedy. There's also this sense of mystery regarding the origins/settings of the story. The main male protagonist from both series also have similar personalities. They are also characters of high interest by other characters in the series as he seems to have hidden origins.

The two are about dream worlds and fighting enemies inside. Others can go inside the dreams to but it's when they are asleep for Yumeria. Both have quite a bit of action and the two anime are short too.

Both main characters want to be a hero; this makes them very reckless as they take on very overpowering opponents, so both anime have many plot conveniences to keep them alive. Also both MC have the power of materialization. In both anime there is a female character that fights besides the MC; in Yumekui Merry the main female is badass and cute, while in FSN the female is just badass. Merry is from another dimension, while Saber is from the past; so neither of the female characters is very familar with the modern world. Both anime take place in modern day Japan, but also have a dark  read more

Both can be funny sometimes, both have characters that have intentions of destroying a person/people, both have people that have strange powers, and I find that some of the characters in Code:Breaker are similar to characters in Yumekui Merry.

How these anime are similar: ~Both have action / fighting. ~Both have just a teensy bit drama. ~Both have female heroines that have (Yumekui Merry) 1 or (Zombie Loan) 2 male companions. ~Both have emotionally strong anime female heroines.

What these two anime have in common: ~Action, AcTiOn, ACTION!!!! Ass-kicking action!!!! ~Comedy. (Somewhat) ~Features strong heroines that had to sacrifice things. ~Girl Heroine has (Yumekui Merry) 1 or more than one (Arcana Famiglia) guys following them around. ~Fantasy appears in Yumekui Merry, while Arcana Famiglia features somewhat more magical things, like their abilities, if one can call it that.

Same idea, people saving other people's hopes and dreams.

You can say Merry is very similar to Index, both stubborn at first. Not willing to let anyone help them out, but after a certain incident, the boy promises the girl to help no matter what. Little by little, the boy gets drag into a different world of magic or dream. It leans more toward the action/ adventure section than romance. But i can say one thing, it will keep you watching it from beginning to end b/c it is very interesting in term of the plot.

Both use dreams as a key plot point, in Yumekui Merry there is a supernatural explanation to why the characters interact with the world of dreams while Paprika gives a scientific view on the same matter. The ambient inside the dreams is kind of surreal in Yumeki Merry, and of you liked that atmosphere then Paprika is even better. They also have good animation, of course Paprika has better animation but Yumekui Merry has great scenes considering it's a 13 episodes series.

Both anime are about Mc's that can transfer their consciousness into a dreamlike alternate world, the dreamworld's can also be very captivating, dangerous, psychological and surreal in both anime. I would say that Yumekui Merry (Dreameater Merry) is a more lighthearted approach to the dreamworld fantasy sub-genre and while Wonder Egg Priority can also be very lighthearted at times it does feature some much darker and more disturbing subject matter happening in both of it's worlds. Both are great anime so if you liked one I would definitely recommend checking out the other. Thanks for reading, -Tooru25.

The idea of the dreams residing inside humans is similar, how the humans change when they have a dream in them hei and Chizuru Kawanam have a similar attitude +merry and hei both seem different than others like them

Both have as setting the Dreamworld, where the protagonists have to fight against evil.

Both anime use a gothic art style and also use bright colors mixed in. Both stories are of the horror genre. The stories also have a bit of mystery to them.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
The main character finds themselves being shoved into an alternate wold that is Gothic and experimental in the way it is designed. The main characters also find themselves having to fight to survive said worlds. The upside down feeling is nice as well.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
Both of these Anime deal with the mind and forgotten backgrounds and things one can't easily control. Things aren't a game either in these series, and yet there is this mentality that the characters should be thinking this way at first.

it kinda as the same situation of story, the same mix, yumekui merry involves dreams and supernatural stuff, xxxholic also deals with supernatural/magic stuff; it takes you in to a different worlds and situations both animes take you through weird and wonderful events.

It both has its darker themes and times. It also has a alice and wonderland kind of thing going on like it the ova of Kuroshitsuji. :)

how an other-worldly female creature comes to the human world and a human male helps her hunt down monsters and lets her live with him. in Kami nomi zo shiru sekai Keima is forced to help Elssie hunt down loose souls, but Yumekui Merry Yumeji chooses to help her Merry hunt down dream deamons. and the character Tenri in Kami nomi zo shiru sekai is somewhat similar to the character Kounagi in Yumekui Merry, they both have a mystical female creature in them, Tenri has Dianna and Kounagi has Pati

first of all, the fact that a girl came from another world and only remembers vague memories of her past, although they are different beings, their purpose is the same, to hunt down monsters. secondly, the main male character who takes responsibly and helps the girl to hunt and exorcise the monsters, and lets her stay with him. Also, the childhood friend that loves the main male lead. frankly, I'm surprised that nobody made this recommendation sooner

Where does one belong? Why is one in a world that is not their own? These Anime both deal with this subject, that and friendship and dealing with life.

Both series have similar story-line where a boy meets a girl out of a pure random event. The boy is then drag into the girl supernatural world. While working with each other, they will unravel the mystery of their past.
