Koukaku Kidoutai: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG

Kenji Kamiyama's mentor and the man most responsible for 'Ghost in the Shell' as we know it, Mamoru Oshii, was asked for his ideas when season two of 'Stand Alone Complex' was first being conceived. The end result was essentially a remake - with edits - of another of Oshii's movies: Patlabor 2. Both Patlabor 2 and SAC2 share an equal parts interesting and gripping premise: an attempt is made to orchestrate a Japanese civil war by a third party for their own interests, and as the crisis escalates, the core cast of main characters from both series find themselves as the only ones aware the situation is being manipulated by a puppet master. In Patlabor the civil war is between the Japanese military and police; in SAC2 it's between the Japanese and three million Asian refugees (following fictional World Wars III & IV) given a Japanese island as their refuge.  read more 

Both are from Production I.G and have the similar futuristic police thriller theme to it. In Psycho-Pass the police's special team that are comprised of Enforcers who are latent criminals who are specialized to hunt down other latent criminals. In Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: 2nd Gig this special unit works for the organization called Public Security Section 9; a division that exist under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The unit is a group who specializes in fighting technology-related crimes like cyberterrorism. Both have a cyberpunk setting.  

There aren't many anime that can truly be compared to GITS, but GITS and vivy both share strong female leads, tech-heavy future settings, action-thriller genres, engaging plots, good fights (even though they're not the focus), and fun robot side characters 

An elite Anti-Terrorist Organization tries to solve a government conspiracy that they themselves are already a chess piece in. They both use this story to comment on the state of post-war Japan and Japans relationship with America especially (for Angel Cop though, you will need to find an uncensored version for this) Also Cyborgs. 

Some of concepts that went into the Individual Eleven plot arc as well as the refugee plot arc are somewhat similar to the later part of the movie 

cyberpunk series that tackle similar sociopolitical and philosophical issues. the protagonist is a soldier with cybernetically enhanced body. they reflect on different sides of their own existence in the era when physical difference between man and machine, free will and pre programmed behavior, has become vague.  

A somewhat sexualized female police officer with an abnormal strength as the lead. The exploration of her past and her nickname. A radical terrorist group. The focus of millions of refugees living from the destruction of its fictional universe. Despite the similar premise, the tone and execution is quite different. Tetsuwan Birdy Decode:02 uses its broader political structure as a springboard for its cosmopolitan characters. Focusing more on its dramatic past, it pushes aside a lot of the political intrigue unlike GitS. It also has a much more wider spectrum of tones and genres and is more cathartic with its set of characters. Meanwhile GitS SAC has a more regimented set of characters and a much more thicker political climate with a more solid establishment for its setting. I would recommend the preference for either a space opera or a cyberpunk anime. Still, both are pretty good sci-fi ,action, drama.  read more 

2nd GIG shares the same episodic and suspenseful thrill as Monster. 2nd GIG explores the geo-political structure of the near future with the birth of technology; the adverse affects, the positives, the philosophical questioning of individuality and god among a system of connected Shells. Whereas Monster is focused more on Johan and its characters; the product of an extreme case of true nihilism. A product of greed, desperation and kindness. Although different fundamentally regarding their topics and overall tone, both share great elements of story structure and presentation. Both have great music and can be considered a "non-battle" anime. 

Cyberpunk, androids, cyberbrains, cyborgs, all that cool sci-fi stuff and the series shows how it mixes with the society in the future. Both originate from manga by the same author, though Ghost in the Shell focuses more on the philosophical part while Pandora focuses more on the relationship (and some fanservice) side. 

Both sci-fi animes have very deep stories and makes you think very hard to understand its development. GITS SAC 2nd Gig has the perfect mix of action, drama and politics conspiracy, always exploring the thin border between cyberworld and reality. Lain is more focused on drama, but share the futuristic scenario. The character developments on the two series are awesome! 

both have bad-ass main woman and normalish guy, both have great dubs also they both have great gun fight and realistic looking art also they both are Seinen. The plots are different ghost in the shell is a cyber punk about a about a governmental group going after criminals and black lagoon is realistic based in current time and mainly about criminal activity because the mains are basically criminals. 

For political theorists out there who enjoy engaging with ideas such as restructuring society, these two anime share common elements. At the macro-level of society, various actors with grand ideologies at hand plan to reshape society, or at least, to prepare the grounds for the next stage in its development. At the micro-level of society, civil unrest, clandestine political gamesmanship, and the threat of military action from foreign actors all threaten to push everything toward the brink of chaos. If you're interested in performances motivated by civil unrest, i.e. grand politics, then moving from one to the other should appeal to you. 

Bothy have robots. Great battles. Dystopian future. 

In a way, Karakuri Circus is a shounen, anachronic version of Ghost in the Shell. Artificial humans - androids/puppets and theme that examined whether this artificial version of life can understand how humans feel, why they act and whether this can be replicated by machines. Also included cyborgs - humans with part of their body exchanged for mechanical parts. While in Ghost in the Shell this is all done with science, Karakury Circus doesn't really try to present a "realistic"" technology and it's a puppetry, machinery and alchemy.
