The stars are both black samurai and the setting is rooted in feudal Japanese culture but spiced with plenty of exaggerations. They only have a handful of episodes each that equate roughly to movie length. What the two anime have in common most of all is the fact that they both released an English version as their primary dub. If you enjoy anime in English and dig the samurai aesthetic - but don't mind some creative liberties - Afro Samurai and Yasuke have got you covered.

Anime based off historical events with real characters from history but with magic and demons mixed in for some reason.

- both anime have protagonists that are samurai in feudal japan - both anime have protagonists that would be considered eccentric given their time periods - both anime have a soundtrack that is very reminiscent of the other, almost as if flying lotus is paying homage to nujabes' by using similar hip-hop/ lofi elements throughout the soundtrack even though a lot of yasuke features synth-inspired beats, whereas samurai champloo is more of hip hop, lofi, and jazz beats - the fights have similar choreography and fluidity that are evocative of one another and that work very well with their respective soundtracks

- MC is a warrior and becomes a bodyguard - Older protector to a young character with supernatural powers - Similar animation style - Takes place in a feudal era of Japan

Warriors. Yasuke and Vinland Saga follow warriors who were taken in by a foreign party, made to fight affairs, reloving the newly joined team. The two anime go around this slightly different. With Yasuke doing so with Yassan living as a samurai, having a somewhat decent life, being loyal to the people who took him in and do well with him. Vinland does this with Thorfinn being out for revenge against those who took his father from him. Yasuke's general reception isn't high, but you still may find it enjoyable to sit through. Vinland Saga however is a great story of what it means to be a  read more

Both of the series are set in feudal japan has a samurai protagonist with a similar story of protagonist protecting a girl. Antagonist are super power user. Lot of blood and gore is involved. yasuke has more of mecha and American feel. While ninja scroll series on the other had more ugly horror appeal

Single warrior protecting kid. Many brutal adversaries try to catch them and kill them. There are intense battle scenes. Set in similar period of japanese history. There will be similar emotional vibes from those shows.

Samurai. Samurai who find themselves with everything lost, nothing to call their own, go on a trek with none other than a younger one accompanying them. Yasuke and Dororo tell a grand long journey of what the two pairs face along their way to the ultimate goal they have. Yasuke does this with a real historical figure with the same name, going to help Saki with the strange powers she has. Dororo does this with Hyakkimaru taking back the body he has lost in a Faustian bargain. Both anime also have the two warriors flashback on their life from time. Though I am not everyone, Yasuke isn't  read more

Legit these two anime have no sense of direction and feel like they only exist for the sake of action. Obviously, I am not everyone, so you enjoy this more than I did but I wouldn't go into these looking for good stories since they legitimately do skip out on detail to the point where you get lost easily. At the end of the day, there are good audiovisuals brought to you by studio MAPPA.

both have samurai and katanas as their focus, a pair / trio who travel to find something / someone, plenty of fights, have 5+ episodes etc.

Black samurain in anachronostically stylized setting.

- Both feature samurai and mechas - Both shows are not afraid of killing likable characters - Both feature a nostalgic OST The story felt also very similar, but Samurai 7 was able to deliver since it had 26 episodes to work with.

They both take place around the same time period and both feature sci fi elements.

Netflix original anime have a hit or miss reputation that alienate hardcore anime fans who prefer to skip most titles. The general consensus is that Onimusha and Yasuke are misses and therefore have received little attention. Onimusha and Yasuke are samurai anime series with fantasy elements that are easily watchable with their short episode count. Sometimes this is all you need along with some action for a good time. If this was one of your reasons for watching this anime then you should consider this recommendation.

Samurai guys are sent to an unusual environment and fall into the hell of insane events. Both shows have similar approach, throwing a weird mix of fancy yet incompatible things right into your face. Medieval Japan with magic and freaking robots? Check. Samurai and ninja isekai'd to the zombie apocalypse future? Why not?
