These anime have bizarrely unique, wildly niche, or oddly specific concepts. From sentient clothes, to vampires in space, to undead idols, some of these anime may leave you wondering, "who even came up with this idea?..."

This is a part of a series of stacks that are about artistic tendencies in anime (and that border the fine line between sophisticated and pretentious).

This stack is a work in progress.

Bibliography:
Broderick, Michael. “Superflat Eschatology: Renewal and Religion in anime.” Animation Studies: Animated Dialogues. 2007. 29-36.
Napier, Susan J. “Waiting for the End of the World: Apocalypctic Identity.” Anime from Akira to Howl's Moving Castle. Palgrave Macmillan, 2005. 249-263.

Choujin Densetsu Urotsukidouji Movie should be included here, but is tagged as hentai on MAL, so otherwise this list couldn't be public.

Characters are ripped from society and placed in the wild to fend for themselves. Or the world ends, but they survived the initial blow.

These 5 are my favorite comedies of all time. Gintama is my 2nd favorite anime with one of my favorite lines I still reference to this day. Grand Blue is just weird. A lot of the jokes I found myself cracking up and the story is just to stupid not to be good. Prison School... I can't really explain that one to be honest you gotta just watch it. Ghost Stories is not known for the sub but its funny ass Dub. I highly recommend this one. Japan Sinks 2020 is funny though it is labled as a horror and I will most likely go to hell for the scenes I found funny.

These drama anime had me glued to the screen the entire time, and there was never a dull moment. (Requirements: 1. It had to have me glued to the screen because of the drama. 2. I must have watched the entire anime from beginning to end.)

Only one entry per anime.

Are you interested in the earth and how the planet works or just like seeing geological themes in your anime? Then you've come to the right place!

These anime feature geologists or themes involving geology. If you're interested in minerals, rock formations, lava or natural disasters then check out some of the anime on this list. Due to the lack of geology focused series, some anime on the list will include tangential references to geology and may not feature it as a major theme. These will be included at lower entries on the list.

If you can think of any other anime to add to this interest stack, feel free to shoot me a DM!

Masaaki Yuasa is known for his crazy, experimental anime. I personally am a fan and as such I decided to compile them together in one place. I decided to only include the stuff he directed so nothing of the shows he animated or storyboarded and nothing by his studio Science Saru that he didn’t direct.

Masaaki Yuasa is a very experimental and often surreal creator and a personal favourite. I put together a list of anime he directed.

There are a few anime listed here he only directed part of: Anime Rakugo Kan; Genius Party; Space Dandy.
