Both are about a desperate struggle against alien apocalypse, banked on a single hope found in a teenage girl born for this purpose. Both series focus less on the wars but on the tragic characters. Iriya is a superior production in terms of story cohesion and credibility in my opinion.

Both are short but pretty forward going romance drama animes. While Hanbun has a very realistic setting with a girl that suffers from an illness, Triya goes more in the sci-fi genre giving us some military aspects and a bit comedy too with a mysterious girl that has mental and physical unstableness. Also a bit more trivial but both female lead characters have a very similar hair color.

In both animes there is a girl who's fighting against aliens to save the Earth. In both animes it get's really dramatic and there's a romance thing going on to. Both are very sad. If one got you you'd definitely like the other one too.

Short and interesting romance/sci-fi/drama stories..

A boys' summer is about dealing with aliens from another planet. One boy meets and falls in love with an alien while the other falls in love with a girl who fights aliens. There is a concept of loss as well.

Both Anime have a dark undertone. There is a big governmental secret and man kinds future rests on that secret.

Does one choose to never cry again or does one choose to find someone to protect. Earth is being invaded by aliens and a choice has to be made about whether to fight or not, or just give up on the world entirely.

In both Anime there is a girl whose emotional output and socialization ability has problems but the guy she likes works on getting her to emote either by helping her through day to day problems or by getting her emotions back.

The main female character in the anime has socialization problems that the main male character has to end up dealing with. Aliens are also involves and the female characters share similarities in the way they look.

In order to stop an alien invasion children pilots are needed as they are the only ones who can save Earth from destruction. There is also a lot of angst in these series.

Both boys, from both anime, meet a girl that's from outer space. (Or something like that.)

They both has very similar atmosphere: there is a invisible war in background, there is a secret technology which is a essential part of story (UFO and Takemikazuchi).

Both titles involve a sort of boy meets girl, girl has alien origins, boy attempts to rescue girl, secret government stuff, and... You'll have to watch for yourself, I'm not spoiling any more.

Main heroines of both titles have to fight alone opposite alien invadors to save Earth and person they love. Both have quite tragic but not totally bad end

both have the same problems/story when it comes to the love/ relationship portion of the show. the main character (female) are both mysterious and powerful and fall in love with an average guy. both the males have childhood friends that are in love with them.

Aliens are out to destroy the world. Females with special abilities are fighting against them so that man kind can continue living. The theme of protecting those one cares about is big to.

The similarity can be looked at the High Level of Militarism, that will revolve around both the protagonist and the alien-heroine. Secret Organization, Alien Cults and Secret Government Military Agents. Alongside with mild ecchiness and a Web of Love Drama.

The government has a dark secret they don't want the public to know about. The main characters stumble upon a part and slowly unravel the secret. There is a lot of angst and an overlying dark mood to both plots.

A young man fights for one person he cares through amid a war that is going on. He fights it despite all the odds against him just to have a little bit of happiness for the person he cares about left.

One pilot has the fate of Earth in their hands when aliens attack to annihilate earth. The pilots also have similar social problems.

exactly the same type of male protagonist. boring but kind, nothing-much-to-him. somehow lands himself a girl whos an alien/God, and hence elements of romance and comedy.

Firstly, I want to warn you about spoilers. I don't know how much EXACTLY you count spoilers for, so just a warning ^^ Both Animes have everythng surrounded by spaceships, a boy, who lvoes a girl and about the girl's poor condition.

It really is very hard to compare both without spoiling the total experience. If you enjoyed the tear-jerking, bittersweet ending of Air, then you will probably like the story of Iriya no Sora. While not as tear-jerking per se, you might find the similarities between the main heroines quite amusing in a sense...well more like depressing really. The genres itself may be completely different, but the overall plot is relatively the same.

The goal is to find a way for Earth to continue living but can it be done without sacrifice?

A calm life is upturned and the main character tries with what ability someone their age can to fight what is going on during a war.

Lots of angst and sci-fi. A young male is basically introduced to a world others are in a way not privy to.

Having great abilities has physical and mental costs in both Anime. There is also a lot of angst and bits of romance.

Aliens seek/sought world annihilation. Should the human race be allowed to continue as it is or should it start afresh? Should love be over the human destiny or should the human destiny be over love.
report Recommended by Yemi_Hikari
The main character subconsciously knows that "thing" is going to happen but they fight admitting it and try to make the opposite a reality whether through a physical fight or mentally challenging it.

Can a guy save the girl he loves? Slowly but surely at first site he falls in love with her and he fights to make sure she has a good life. However, fate of the world is against him, is it not?
