"The Raven of Inner Palace" (Kokyu no Karasu) is very, very similar, if you're in the mood for more palace adventures in the ancient Forbidden City. Like this series, it has a charismatic and feisty young protagonist, the enigmatic Raven Consort, who solves mysteries in the Inner Palace with her sharp wit. We also have palace intrigues and supernatural mysteries. And a beautiful historical setting. I highly recommend it. It is very addictive, and if you like "The Apothecary's Diaries", you will love it.

There's two main factors: the main character and the envirenment For the main characters: - Both female - Both herbalists and specialists in ancient medicine - Both find herself in an unfamiliar place For the envirenment Royal/Imperial court with historical theme

Like Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, Akatsuki no Yona is set in an ancient kingdom. Both shows have romance tropes between the two main characters, however the social status of the characters are flipped seeing that Yona is a princess while Maomao is a lady in waiting and Hak is a soldier and Jinshi is a eunuch. If you enjoy subtle romance in historical anime with a strong female lead, these two shows go hand in hand.

Both stories are about young women who seem to have more knowledge then the people around them. They use their extensive knowledge to heal, create invention, and solve problems. They're both very intelligent and use their knowledge or their friends/family.

Akin to Ancient Chinese Imperial period stories, both of these shows are set in a fictitious Imperial palace setting where the female protagonists are sent to the royal imperial court (much to their dismay) in order to help resolve some of the internal, societal & political problems the kingdom is facing. Shuurei & Maomao (respectively) are both geniuses & savvy in their own right and carry themselves as they navigate through imperial life. It's rather imperative that audiences must have some knowledge in imperial royal & political systems to fully appreciate the world building of both shows.

Both series take place in historical palaces "inner chambers." Some of the differences are that oooku is a male harem instead of women and eunuchs, and that apothecary diaries involves more mystery solving.

Smart Protagonists in both Anime. Both has good animation and art style. Good soundtrack is another similarity. Both are Slice-of-Life shows that focus on solving mysteries and various intricacies of the world around us.

If you are looking for something to watch while waiting for the next season of Kusuriya then Yatagarasu will probably rub the right spot. It has a similar setting, great art and shape shifting ravens that are equally supernatural to Maomao's knack for solving court problems. There's princesses and bishounens as well!

Similar main characters who are knowledgable, amusing and have to adapt to sudden changes in their environments. If you enjoyed Dr. Stone for Senku's mannerisms and his application of science and reasoning then you'll also enjoy Kusuriya no Hitorigoto.

Strong, kind, and eccentric female lead with a clingy attractive male lead in a seat of power who has a mostly one-sided attraction to the female lead in an ancient Chinese setting

The female lead is both an expert on medicine

"Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" and "The Apothecary Diaries" both aired from Fall 2023 to Winter 2024. So what makes them similiar- - led by an interesting female protagonist (Frieren and Maomao) and good supporting characters, each having their own story - set in medieval world - good ost

Both are shows in a historical setting where the main characters think like a modern person, refusing to follow the social norms that don't make sense to them, and working to craftily get what they want while still following the rules. Both shows also feature strong-willed women who, despite what the men might think, are the real ones in charge. If you enjoy shows with clever, loveable characters, I would highly reccommend.

the character Dynamics between both shows strike the same chords with me.

Both have an Ancient Chinese setting and the MC is a strong female character involved with a handsome male. They have the same vibe I guess and I was surprised to see no one had recommended it yet. Really worth the watch.

- both are well-made adaptations of a light novel - both are set within a historical time setting - both feature a dynamic relationship, chemistry, and banter between their lead male and female characters - both have a slower pacing, lots of slice-of-life moments, lots of talking and great writing - beyond mere entertainment, the viewer has a chance to broaden their knowledge as "Apothecary Diaries" delves into the realms of medicine & poisons, while "Spice and Wolf" focuses on economics

Both have smart and eccentric MCs who solve mysteries. Both are set in historical periods, Undead Girl is in Europe and The Apothecary Diaries in Imperial China.

Two anime shaped around royal palace, it's kitchen and palace community's relations. Very similar themes.

Girl, that is doctorish in ancient china, very intelligent, both end up in a court setting with powerfull people

These are both female led shows with a similar blend of romance and political intrigue, though both lean in the opposite direction.

Competent female lead character These girls are smart people go to them to fix their problems Somewhat tragic backstory Sorry the plots have nothing to do with each other really, but maybe youre looking for someone who isnt boycrazy or incapable of doing anything.

If you are a fan of the lead, Maomao and her investigative nature you will enjoy Beautiful Bones. The art style is just as stunning and the topics are much the same which deals in death and mystery. It is only missing the backroom intrigue represented in Apoth diaries, but it replaces those aspects with a more suspenseful atmosphere.

Both Maomao and Laios are very autistic Both anime start somewhat lighthearted and get darker and darker as the plot develops

Both MCs are experienced pharmasists who impress others with their knowledge and problem solving skills. They are both independent and positive characters who love the work they do.

They both have a skilled heroine that is more focused on her goals than romance. While the plot is a looot more shallow in Akuyaku Reijou Level 99, while in Kusuriya you get properly emotionally invested, they both give off a similar vibe in a sense; so I feel that someone who enjoyed Akuyaku Reijou Level 99 will definitely enjoy Kusuriya no Hitorigoto even more.

Both of these shows are set in chinese period. Kingdom focuses on more of the warfare with occasional palace plots.
