Ookami to Koushinryou: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf

With a cartload of fur pelts in tow, traveling merchant Kraft Lawrence stops by the village of Pasloe. According to local folklore, centuries ago, one of the villagers made a promise with the wolf deity Holo, who swore to bless Pasloe with bountiful harvests of wheat. Yet, as time passed, such stories became little more than relics of the past.

After quickly finishing his business in the village, Lawrence sets out to his next destination. His journey, however, takes an unexpected turn when he discovers a nude, animal-eared girl sleeping among his pelts. Even more surprisingly, the youthful-looking woman claims to be Holo—the wolf of legend.

Holo wishes to return to her hometown in the north, and though their first encounter is rocky, she convinces Lawrence to accompany her on her travels. In return, she vows to earn her keep, using her quick wits and lifetime of experience to help her newfound companion in his dealings. As they continue their journey, Lawrence and Holo take advantage of whatever economic opportunities they come across, often landing in situations that put both their business skills and their relationship to the test.

Masterpiece of medieval fantasy.

It is incredible as a premise that could be boring on paper but is so well written that it catches you from chapter 1.

but this story would not be so spectacular if it were not for Holo and her incredible personality, her charisma and her great depth as a character.

Lawrence is also a focused and interesting protagonist and the best of all is his interaction with the Wolf who does not stop having duels of words every time they have the opportunity.

The relationship between Holo and Lawrence is one of the strong points of the work since it is a very solid ... relationship with good foundation when it comes to defining why they are together.

Another interesting point is the wide world that the work handles, mixing "realism" within its magical universe.

100% recommended anime 10/10

I recommend this masterpiece.

First let's talk about its world building and its characters, I want to say that Holo is the most complete character I have ever seen in terms of depth and personality, she has a powerful charisma that makes it entertaining to watch.

The towns they visit along the trip are incredible.

Finally there is a mature protagonist who knows what he wants and is determined to achieve it, plus he has no traumas or any pubescent bullshit.

The Romance that the work has is unique and well constructed where they come together by mutual agreement and as they travel they realize that they have a ... lot in common.

The economic premise is unique since no work treats it intelligently.

I 100% recommend this work Holo and Lawrence are wonderful.

Mixed Feelings

Preliminary (8/25 eps)

5/10. Coming in this anime I knew about the original and heard nothing but good things about it. I hadn’t seen the original so I was excited for the reboot and what would it entail. But after 8 episodes I was disappointed with just how underwhelming it all was. The animation and music are done very well and the voice acting i think fits every character very nicely, but it’s biggest issue is how dull the story is. The two leads Lawrence and Holo aren’t bad in any way but they don’t do anything to draw you into the plot. In nearly every episode Lawrence ... is talking about how he can do this and that to make a potential profit, while Holo is saying how cute she is and how she wants to eat some good food. The best thing about this anime is its setting and how Holo’s existence is something that the church of this world doesn’t want anyone to know about her, and even then I don’t think it’s explored enough in the show. Maybe they’ll explore more of that plot later but after the past two months I can’t really think of any reason to keep watching.
