What a wholesome, educative, refreshing and soul-soothing anime!
I wanted to watch this anime back in summer 2021, but then decided to wait until it was finished before binging it. Unfortunately I forgot about it.. Until this summer when MAL having Summer Restack Challenge, that I remember about this anime.
At first, I was a bit skeptical with the aquarium theme. I'm a vegetarian, you see.. So the thought of seeing animals being confined and caged isn't appealing for me. HOWEVER! With the power of mighty anime goddess, I can't help but liking this.. A LOT! Please let me explain the appeal and charm of this anime.

had never watched any anime produced by P.A. Work so I had no idea what to expect from the animation. But boy, it wasn't disappointing. The animation is not disappointing at all! In fact, it was so eye-opening.. I felt like my eyes had been cleansed after watching this anime. As for the soundtracks and Seiyuu.. They were perfect. I couldn't ask for better sound. Not to mention the ASMR of underwater creatures and its environment. They were so therapeutic.
Since the genre is Slice of Life, the story wasn't too complicated to the point of inflicting migraine. It was actually very refreshing and warming story. Still, there was conflict and issue. This anime brought up the coming of age issue, "mid life crisis" issue, and even environmental issue among other issues. With each issue, the characters got some room to reflect and grow. In my opinion, the power of' Slice of Life' genre is that mundane and realistic problem solving. Some people might find the pace boring, but I think that's what I like about Slice of Life anime. And this anime is no different. The pace wasn't rush or slow, in my opinion. It was good and no dragging. I also like how positive the characters are. Seriously, it seems like they don't have any bad bone in their body. There were some clashes and misunderstandings, of course.. But they were not bad or evil. The characters are such a bunch of positive thinking people, that I want to be a part of.
Anyways~~ I saw that some people were complaining about the lesbian bait.
I'm a hard-core Fujoshi, so my interest lays on the romance of male on male. Yes, I'm interested in no romance other than yaoi. So, shoujo ai and yuri aren't my cup of tea. As for this anime, I can see where that lesbian bait came from, but I have to disagree. Our main characters Kururu and Fuuka do have strong bond, but it was nothing more than soul-sisters relationships. I know, I know.. Because I experienced it myself in dozens occasions how people misunderstood my strong best-friendship with my female besties. People thought we were lesbian and dating, just because we were hugging and having fun with each other. We support each other like sisters.. And that's how I see Kukuru and Fuuka.
They were so close, some audiences thought this anime was lesbian bait. But nope! I strongly disagree. I had similar experience like Kururu (you should watch the anime for details, I won't spoil anything), so I have this strong relationship with a female bestie 2 years older than me. I can see the similarity between my friendship and Kururu's.
So for those having doubt on watching this anime because of the lesbian baiting issue.. Please trust me, there's none. At least none in my opinion. Even the possibility of romance (not between Kukuru and Fuuka, duh) only mentioned nonchalantly, and not the focus of the story. What you will get from this anime is a strong bond between two young ladies (and their supportive-positive friends), helping each other reaching their dream.
For the enjoyment, I give solid 10/10.
I want to re-watch it soon. So, yeah.. I highly recommend watching this anime if you're looking for relaxing and fluffy anime with mesmerizing animation.

The continuation of Ginko's journey. Another masterpiece of Mushishi series.
Still with the story telling and episodic style, this second season (part 1) of Mushishi is continuing Ginko's journey through Japan-like Island(s) to find and solve any Mushi phenomenon. Mushi, a basic form of life that exists without many people realizing it, but they can definitely feel their existences. Blessed (or cursed?) with the ability to see and understand Mushi, Ginko--a Mushishi--helped people he met during his journey with the Mushi that causing problems to clueless people around.

to embrace the Mushi, instead of asking help to Ginko about it. It seemed like Ginko got double trouble from the people and the Mushi. Especially some Mushi decided to showed their true "ability". While season 1 was kind of easy journey in most part, and simple stories on each episode.. Season 2 was troublesome journey for Ginko, with complex stories. However, I felt season 1 had bigger impact on me emotionally (maybe because it was the first time I saw anything like Mushishi?). I felt emotionally fragile almost on each episode while watching the first season. Meanwhile on the second season I couldn't help by worrying about Ginko's safety. But overall, I did enjoy this second season (part 1) like previous season.
Once again, I had satisfying experience of the seiyuu and the sound of this anime. Not to mention the opening song is beautiful and calming--even more than first season. The animation is getting better, but still the same (if you get, what I mean). It's been almost 10 years since season 1, but it felt like nothing had changed--the nuance is still the same. For me, who binging this series for the past week (since season 1), I didn't feel any gap between seasons, aside from the depth and complexity of the story.
If you ask me.. Do I have anything I dislike from this anime? Well, none.
I like everything about this anime. Every single aspect of Mushishi series is a masterpiece so far. It gets better over the years, in fact.
Hopefully this review will help anyone who still has a doubt to watch this series. I recommend it, please go for it!

A special masterpiece. A special episode of a masterpiece.
Almost a decade after the last episode of Mushishi season 1 back in 2006, this special episode relieved the thirst of Mushishi's fans. Luckily for me, I didn't have to wait long for this special episode, because I just finished binge watching Mushishi season 1 yesterday.
What makes this special episode special is the appearance of supporting characters from the season 1. Besides Ginko, Adashino, and Tenyuu, all supporting characters from almost each episode made brief appearance during the solar eclipse.

season 1. Although I'm not sure, but it seems like a brief moment had passed from the hint of the supporting characters.
Hihami, a mushi that appears during solar eclipse phenomenon. Solar eclipse itself can trigger the mushi activity. Therefore, in this special episode Ginko, with the help of Tanyuu's prediction, trying to prevent any unwanted tragedy caused by Hihami. Ginko told Adashino about the possibility mushi incident that happened during the solar eclipse, while Ginko was visiting certain village where Hihami might appear.
As Tanyuu predicted, the Hihami appeared on the village that Ginko visited. But the main focus of the special episode is actually about twin sisters and their father. Hinata and Hiyori, twins that were born with different appearances caused by Tsukihami, mushi that appeared during lunar eclipse.
Due to Tsukihami, Hiyori was affected by the Hihami as well. While Ginko was trying to find a way to solve the Hihami, the family of three had to struggle with the side effect Hihami made on their family. They had to help Ginko with Hihami, before they might lose a family member forever.
The moral value from this movie is "don't take anything for granted". Because some thing can be taken away from you without prior notice. Some thing or some one that you think might be there forever, could be disappear whenever.
Thinking back of Mushishi season 1, I thought this anime could never get any better.. But alas, even a masterpiece can get even better. The story, the art, the sound, the character, and the enjoyment--it's 10 out of 10.
In my opinion, this movie can be stand alone or even prequel of season 1. It doesn't effecting or related to season 1 in certain way, except the hint of supporting characters during the solar eclipse, which makes me want to watch season 1 all over again.

Mushishi is a hidden gem.. An underrated masterpiece!
I know it's not helpful when people just say "it's masterpiece", without any further explanation and elaboration. So, I'm going to try my best to breakdown the reasons why I rate Mushishi 10/10 as a masterpiece!.
From the opening song.. It's such a soothing and calming acoustic guitar with poetic lyrics. The opening gives some hint of what kind of anime Mushishi is.. About wanderer searching for something.
A man named Ginko, searching and wandering through ancient places. Telling stories about some being(s) called Mushi, the basic form of life that has no meaning but it's alive. However, not everyone

is able to see it, but most people can feel its existence. Through Ginko's adventures, viewers are brought to certain period in Japan-like land (I say Japan-like, because there is no specification on anime for the location to be in Japan) at the end of Edo period. I assume it's the end of Edo period because it's like Edo period but it's kinda modernized.. From the hairstyle and all. I'm not an expert on Japan period of time, so I could be mistaken. All characters are wearing kimono, except Ginko. He's wearing modern clothes--shirt, pants, and sometimes coat--very western style, or modern in general. He seem so out of place with his white hair and a Tosca(?) eye. However, his striking appearance seems to be a metaphor how different or disconnected he is with the surroundings. He's like a wanderer, a doctor, an investigator, and Mushi collectors. Although the last isn't really true, but he does collect some mementos of the Mushi he encounters during his journey.
As for Mushi.. It's probably an absurd concept for people who aren't familiar with East Asian's cultures/folklores. But for me, the Mushi phenomenon is relatable, or at least familiar (I'm from South East Asia, but some Mushi phenomenon isn't that surprising for me). That's why it was so hard for me to follow the story in each episode. But I must admit, I wasn't able to get through the first episode in one try. I had been wanting to binge watch Mushishi since a long time.. And for several times I tried to watch the first episode, and I couldn't finish it (maybe it was because I wasn't really in the mood to watch 'quiet' anime). BUT! Once I got through first episode, I got sucked in to Ginko's journey and the world of Mushishi. It felt like I was addicted to it. I wanted to know more about Mushi and Ginko's journey.. I wanted to see what kinda characters would Ginko encounter next.. How Ginko became Mushi-shi. I was enjoying each episode that I didn't realize I got through first season in 2 days. If I hadn't to do anything, I would most likely be able to finish it in a day.
What I enjoy the most about this anime is the sounds. The soundtrack, the seiyuu (voice actors), and the sound effect--everything is perfect. I haven't found anime with such peace ASMR as Mushishi. Not to mention the seiyuus are so perfect for each character. I mean, children's voices sound like real children voices.. Teenagers' voices also sound like real teenagers.. And et cetera. I honestly look forward to hear the supporting characters' voices! I have to be honest, not anime has perfect seiyuus for its character.. Sometimes, children's voices sound deeper and more mature than the actual age, so when I first heard the seiyuu's voice in Mushishi, I was so happy.. I still am, actually.. Because there are more season I can watch after this.
It's not true that action anime fans won't be able to enjoy this. I'm a fan of shounen and sport anime myself, but I found Mushishi exciting and therapeutic. My advice for those interested in watching Mushishi will be, "relax and enjoy the journey". Otherwise you won't understand the story at all. Since Mushishi is episodic anime, people can watch the episode randomly. Although I advise to watch accordingly.
That's it! I hope my review is helpful and convincing enough for people to watch Mushishi. This anime needs more love and attention!
P.S. Some episodes are very sad, so prepare your tissue if you're a crybaby like me.

This is a grown up sport anime! That's what I like to say.. Not 100% true, but isn't wrong either.
First of all, this is the first badminton anime I have ever watched. Being a huge fan of badminton sport (I used to play it when I was in elementary and middle school, but growing up I kinda stopped playing since I had to focused on something else) that I follow any badminton tournaments on TV. So, when I found out they finally made a badminton anime (I know this isn't the first, but this is the first I'm interested in), I have to watch it.

my delight, this anime also set up in workplace instead of school, unlike most sport animes. I mean, I like sport animes so much but most of them are setting up in school (which I could relate to 10 years ago), but now I'm a working adult so I feel kinda disconnected whenever I watch sport anime (guess I envy the character's youth, ha!). Hence, I was super excited when I knew about this anime!
Anyway.. On to the review~
I was expecting the anime would focus on technical aspects of badminton sport, but it is not. As a fan of badminton, I'm not a stanger to the game and its terms.. But I can say that those who aren't fans of badminton will follow the game and its terms easily. Since this anime is setting up in workplace, there will be conflicts and issues related to the workplace that the characters have to solve. This is something I'm looking forward actually.
The characters are adults in early 20s to early 30s, so they have responsibilities outside their "hobbies". Yep! Some people think just because they're working adults now, their interests in sport is just meaningless hobbies which is wasting their time. Must I remind you this badminton team is part of corporate team so they're workers on the corporate they are represented. That is why I said what I said at the top--this is a grown up sport anime.
So far, the anime is only focused on 4 corporates teams.. And for some reasons, all characters from those different workplaces are linked one way or another. This is also the caused of some conflicts.
With only 12 episodes, I feel the anime is lacking on the depth of relationships between each characters (I mean it's there, but I feel like they're just grazing the surface). I think they can be explored more if the anime got at least 16 episodes. I would love to watch it if they had 25 episodes! Isn't it saying enough how I like this anime?
In my opinion..
The story is very good (can be explored more),
The art is good (can be improved here and there, but I like the variety of art style on this anime!),
The sound is very good (both Seiyuu and sound effect are very good--especially the sound of shuttle being hit! -- it's therapeutic),
The character is good (should be developed and explored more for the emotional depth),
The enjoyment is GREAT! I will totally re-watch this!
So, it's totally very good overall~~ I highly recommend it!
Based on the last episode, the possibility of season 2 is high. But who knows? If so, hopefully it will be soon.

What a relaxing, heartwarming and therapeutic anime!
To be honest, I've never watched anime with female MC.. Even more so all females MCs. It has always been shounen anime, shounen ai/yaoi, sport, bloody action or slice of life anime considered to be boring/funny by others.. But with all male or mostly male characters, of course. So, this is the first time for me watching anime with all female characters. That being said, I was kinda worried this anime might have hidden shoujo ai/yuri agenda.. Which thank goodness it's not.
Being slice of life anime, I expected slow burning or boring plot.. But what a surprise when this

one turns out to be a masterpiece. Yes, a masterpiece! In my opinion.
This anime is so relaxing and therapeutic that I felt happy after watching each episode. It reminded me how simple things can significantly change one's life and make it happier. It taught me to be grateful and not taking anything in my life for granted.
I'm a female motorbike rider myself. A Honda cub rider too, but not Super Cub type. While the protagonists got their first motorbike in 2th grade (11th grade) of high school, I got mine in my last year of high school (but I could ride motorbike since 4th grade! I was such tomboy and adventurous little girl--learning riding motorbike while I was still riding my bike). After so many cry and a lot effort, I got my first motorbike 12 years ago. Yet, now I'm still riding the same motorbike and making more memories with it. I'm emotionally attached with it. No matter how many times my friends and family suggested me to change my old cub motorbikes with new matic or faster motorbike, I refused.
That's why, I think understand how Koguma's feeling when she got her first motorbike. How happy I was when I got my driving/riding license, first helmet, first rain coat and all the things I needed for riding my motorbike--it felt more fulfilling too because I got them all with my own savings, just like her. Then it was (and still is) memorable whenever I reached far destination with my motorbike. That despite being old and stigmatized as slow motorbike, it still can go wherever whenever I want.
I'd like to say my motorbike is my best friend, and it's a huge part of my life. Believe it or not, I even named my motorbike. Hence, I was surprised when they didn't name their motorbikes! Not yet? Maybe they will soon. Hopefully.
In conclusion, Super Cub is a mundane slice of life anime about riding motorbike--Super Cub. It's not borderline dangerous riding (well there might be kinda dangerous scene of Reiko) but still it's adventurous riding. I would recommend this anime to anyone who wants to enjoy stress free anime. Especially with how cute, adorable, and heartwarming but not obnoxious the female characters are (oh yes, I've been avoiding anime with female MCs because they tend to be obnoxious). Not to mention, the Seiyuus are doing amazing job with how soft and relaxing their voice are (oh yes, this is also one of the reasons I'm not a fan of female characters in anime, their voices tend to be too loud and borderline shrieking all the time--so, finding soft voice female characters are therapeutic).
The animation is stunning. The characters are amazing. The Seiyuus are great. The OP and ED are nice. The plot is SO GOOD. So there no reasons not to watch this masterpiece!

I kinda regret watching this anime. That, I say it.
Every single thing is good, except the plot.
The animation, the Seiyuu, the music (OP and ED), everything is good.. Unfortunately, the story is not.
I feel the story is rather choppy and disconnected from one episode to the next one. Maybe if there is more episode, the plot can be delivered or developed better..?
If it's not for the plot, this anime will probably be one of the best anime this year. I feel like it's such a waste of outstanding animation with how the story progressed. I felt disconnected in the middle of story, and when I

feel connected to the story again, it either made me cry or upset--then it's over.

Watching this in 2021 surely left different feelings. This OVA was aired in 1998-1999, I was only 4 years old then. So, watching this years later after its initial release, I feel truly grateful.
It's not the best in story and art, but I understand they were trying their best. Unfortunately, the efforts didn't came out as good as expected. I have watched several animes (both yaoi and non-yaoi) older than this one, and they have better art and visual. That's why, it's kinda disappointing when this one isn't as good as I expected. I feel like this OVA could turn out to be something great,

but sadly it was failed. If it's not for the Seiyuu and their amazing voice acting, this OVA could be a disaster.
As for the score, I gave 7 out of 10 for the sheer enjoyment I feel after watching this. I especially enjoyed Koyasu Takehito-san's voice!

This final season along with the previous two seasons are truly masterpiece!
Mo Dao Zu Shi series is the first donghua I've ever watched, but I knew it's the best donghua ever made. Thanks to Mo Dao Zu Shi, the past several years I have been fangirling over WangXian (Lan Wangji x Wei Wuxian). All started with the first season, then I read the original novel.. And then manhua version (I skip the Untame, because it's the least accurate adaptation of the original novel--and live action version isn't my cup of tea).
Compared to the first two seasons, this final season shows more of WangXian's relationships. Not
...
explicit or anything, because it's donghua.. But it gives huge satisfaction to me who are watching Mo Dao Zu Shi because its BL elements. But worry not for non-BL fan, you won't be made sick because of it.
This donghua adaptation is practically stripped the BL element from the original novel, but it doesn't "kill" the flow of relationships between the characters. I suggest you read the original novel, because you will find tons of Easter eggs there. But keep in mind that the novel is rather explicit and heavy theme on BL elements *wink*
As this is the final season, all hell break loose here! The climax and the unanswered questions from fans who aren't reading the original novel will be answered here. As for me who read the novel (and remember the story perfectly), I can say this donghua doing a very great job. Like I said in the beginning, this is masterpiece. If you ask me how it is a masterpiece, well.. You better find out yourself!
P.S. Prepare some tissue or anything to wipe off the tears and snots before watching this.. You will need it.
P.P.S. I will absolutely rewatch this again as I did with the two previous seasons.

I can't believe not many people talk about this underrated masterpiece!
Yes, this is not merely an anime about vampire, but a classic and poetic vampire story masterpiece!
To be completely honest, I could write pages upon pages of compliment for Mars Red. However, I won't do it. I saw there's a review which pretty much shares the same view as mine, and it's very well-written review. So, I won't do it. Since I don't think people will read my review anyway.

top class director. It's sentimental and poetic. It's raw and perfectly imperfect.
As an audience, I was taken to a journey I've never experienced and yet by episode 13 I feel like I lived through that era, that classic period. I'm sad when my journey end with Mars Red.. Like the time when the light turns back on inside a studio after the movie has ended, I feel reluctant to get up and leave. I still want to linger and enjoy the movie once again. But when I step outside, I feel glad I come and watch the movie. That's how I feel on Mars Red.
I will surely watch this masterpiece again one day, and recommend it to those who love classical literature, poetry, theater, vampire stories and of course, anime.
