Sins: bland characters stolen from other series, repetition; virtues: reminds me in good ways of _Welcome to the NHK!_ and _Angel Sanctuary_. The first episodes made me seriously wonder why I downloaded it and whether I should just delete it, but then it got more interesting. I'm still a bit confused by the plot: obviously from the first scene it's yet another world-within-a-world-story like _Kanon_ or _Clannad_, but it's not yet clear to me how everything matches up or what the protagonist is doing there while presumably Rimi is about to execute him in the real world.

But by the time I get up to episode 8, I'm starting to fear that _Chaos Head_ will be nothing but one of the innumerable Evangelion-lite clones which think a shadowy organization like SEELE or allusively named plot devices like 'Project Noah' are enough for a good story; hopefully this will just be a long red herring like the DID diagnosis...

But no! My worst fears were realized for _Chaos Head_. I don't think I've ever been so disappointed with a series's ending, not even with _Angel Beats!_. It could have been great; there was real potential. Someone like Jun Maeda could have taken the series up to episode 7, written a new ending and backstory etc., and created something that will be remembered for a very long time. Certainly the people involved had a great deal of talent which they displayed in the splendid _Steins;gate_.

But ultimately someone involved failed, the series copped out, and continued with Eva lite ('Third Melt'? Are you effing kidding me?!) and 'love conquers all'. 6 is too high to express what bitter dregs of failed potential and blasted hope this series made me drink; only a 4 does it justice.
