Elfen Lied is considered one of the most intense and goriest anime ever to be created, its up to the point where many countries ban its existence. By the way, if you haven't got the picture, don't watch the anime if you do not enjoy horror anime (Don't even bother reading these reviews.)
Story: 9
I think this is probably the most fitting rating for Elfen lied. I don't know about you but, when I first watched the anime I was extremely confused. The story takes place in Kamekura town (And by the way, the setting is a real place in Japan) and is about a boy named Kouta, who is traumatized about the past of what happened to his father and younger sister. Over the years, he lost a lot of memories of what happened since it was extremely traumatizing. He lives with a old friend who used to hang out with him when he was a lot younger. As the anime progresses, it introduces new characters and upcoming events.

Art: 10
The art/animation are BEAUTIFUL. The opening is beautiful, however the animation is quit dated since the anime was created in 2004. The paintings that were inspired by Gustav Klimt are just mind blowing-ly beautiful.

Sound: 9
What can I say? Top notch sound quality.

Characters: 8
Oy, this has to be the weakest point of Elfen lied. The characters were extremely annoying (except Lucy of course) and didn't really hold up. They often get in the way of the main story, and will make you literally insane. If it was just Lucy and Kouta, the anime would indeed be more enjoyable.

Enjoyment: 9
My God, this anime made me gasp and weep because of story is just so amazing and well put together! However the series only goes on for 12 episodes (not including the OVA)! The anime really rushes and tries to squeeze it into 12 episodes which doesn't work out that well since they're many things that need to be explained.

Overall: 9
This is my 2nd favorite anime of all time, and honestly I doubt its going to be yours. This anime does have a lot of gore which makes anime lover shy off to another anime. However, if you truly want to enjoy a VERY well put together anime, WATCH IT.
By the way, I recommend watching the dub version because Lucy voice actor is intense and really puts the emotion in the character.
