Elfen Lied is not only worthy favorite, but also worthy to enter the ranking of the best animes I've seen in my whole life, without a doubt.

The development of the plot is engaging and witty. It is inevitable to get involved by Lucy from the moment we are first introduced to her character, even though surrounded by all the carnage.

Lucy is not "just a monster". In the course of the history, we are exposed to her motivations and reasons, we understand her soul. And so it goes for every character; all of them very well developed. We realize the Diclonius, creatures that were created to exterminate the human race, have still their human side - the one capable of sustain real and honest feelings, and to get hurt by them. Feelings that do not get corrupted by a futile ambition, as the one the director carries: to build a new world from the extermination of the former. From this reflection, we may ask ourselves who are the real monsters? Those creatures that kill by instinct, that are captured as animals, imprisoned and subjected to countless horrendous - inhuman - tests, or those behind the glass, pressing a button and giving orders? Those able to kill a baby or shoot in cold blood on a defenseless girl? A world created from those bloodstained ideals would be no better than the world they would leave behind.

It's an intense, strong, exciting and inspiring anime series. Makes you reflect on it. I could not be able to define it as anything other than a masterpiece.
