Preliminary (74/203 eps)
I'd have to say this first; Shounen is not really my cup of tea. After all, I am a girl but Katekyo Hitman Reborn stood out to me along with very few shounen animes that I liked.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn is a manga (adapted into an anime) by Amano Akira. (Want to know a fact you probably didn't know? Amano Akira used to be a yaoi artist!) Let me just say this first; I didn't like the graphics at first but as time passed, her art gradually improved. I took note that her art before wasn't detailed enough (I point out Tsuna's hairstyle in the manga and in the first episodes of the anime among many other things) but it then improved after a while. Compare the first few episodes to the more recent ones and then you'll see what I'm talking about.

As for the music, I applaud to Toshihiko Sahashi for his compositions. They worked well with the anime, especially during fight scenes and their character theme songs portray the character well. The most memorable ones probably (for me anyways) would be Hitoribocchi no Sadame sung by Kondou Takashi (Seiyuu to Hibari Kyoya) and Tsuna Life sung by Yukari Kokubun (Seiyuu to Sawada Tsunayoshi). They portray the character well. The rest of the character songs (There is an extensive list of it) are very good as well.

Now, on to the touchy subject which is the plot. The whole point of the story is to see the progress of Sawada Tsunayoshi into becoming Vongola Decimo. The story is supposedly mafia-centralized (There are a lot of famiglia mentioned) but the whole "mafia" thing was practically null and void from the start. But, as the plot progresses, KHR developed into what it was supposed to be--a shounen manga that targets young boys (coughandraginghormonalgirlscough) that highlights more on fights and friendship and among other things. I'll just point this out; the anime and the manga could have done well without the unrequited romance. Seriously, that's what ticks off most female fans off the most. (coughamongmanyotherthingcough)

I pretty much consider Katekyo Hitman Reborn to be a shounen, fantasy anime due to the un-mafia like features of the story. Even though it was supposed to be labeled as "mafia"; I mean, cursed people turned into babies? BABY spartan tutors? Animals the come from boxes? Power-up rings? (That sound really weird but it gets to the point) TIME TRAVEL? (seriously, that was by far the weirdest--and yet satisfactory--arc). That's only the short list too.

Despite what I say, I enjoyed this anime. It's an entertaining show to watch due to the comedy and the iconic characters. Character development is well done in... most characters. They all have their backstories and reasons for this and that. What irks me is the fact that Hibari Kyoya remains as the most enigmatic characters in the entire series. I mean, unlike everyone else who has this backstory to them and shoves it up other people's faces, Hibari Kyoya remains the most mysterious (AND DOWN RIGHT HANDSOME) character in the KHR series.

An even touchier subject would be the fandom. Specifically, the shipping fandom. I'll just say this now; ship what you want to ship. Do not dis other people's ships unless you want a shipping war to commence. It's not a pretty sight, especially against me. Mind your own business and and we'll mind ours.

Overall, I would recommend this anime to those who enjoy a good laugh and action scenes. I will warn those who have not seen it yet that the first arc is basically the most boring one of all. Seriously. It was just them in their daily lives. Also, beware to those who do not like people running around in their underwear with fire burning on his head. That was what put me off from watching this.
