I first stumbled upon on a more prominent and dominating sister anime; Steins;Gate, which I thought was pretty descent with its display of mind-twisting time travel science fiction, so I decided to see this one. Since this one is way below the line of what its sister anime created, you might think that this is rather unpleasant or not worth the sacrifice. Personally, I think that this is better than Steins;Gate because it exhibited more confusion, mystery, thrills and it perfectly simulated the philosophy of one of the greatest philosophers in history – Plato, wherein he quoted, “What if reality is just an illusion?”

Story (7/10)

The story had a strong start with all the mysteries and confusion going on. You will have yourself wondering whether the character is a mental lunatic or somebody was just playing tricks on him; it perfectly depicts the characteristics of a psychological thriller. The story slowly but beautifully unravels its neatly tied ribbon. Although, as it goes further towards the end of its shinning crimson ribbon, the thrill you experience in the beginning will slowly fade away with it and transform into a sort of typical shonen battle anime. It started out strong but ended in an awkward but heart-warming way. The ending was quite weak to put it simply but the overall concept was quite astonishing.

Art (6/10)

The art was not that bad but it is quite unoriginal. For an art to stand out, it must hold onto a special element that belongs only to the anime or something like a signature style. You want to remember the characters faces no matter how many years have passed like Naruto and his yellow spiky hair and ninja outfit, Ichigo from Bleach with his orange spiky hair and shinigami attire, Lelouch vi Britannia and his Zero alter-ego costume or Kei Kurono with its realistic art and his Gantz battle suit and weaponry. Though I must say that the art is in sync with the anime but it could be better.

Sounds (8/10)

The sounds were pretty descent, clean and strike at the right moment especially with those heart-stopping moments wherein you are unsure or unable to predict what is happening. The intro was plain and simple but it does give you a good vibe after every episode and as for the outro, it has a sorta techno dance feel to it which I find rather awkward for an outro for this kind of anime.

Character (8/10)

The characters were quite distinct especially for the main protagonist with his seemingly twisted and confusing characteristics. The six main ladies in the series were quite distinguishable though some are weaker than the other. The antagonists on the other hand were quite the mastermind indeed but were not fully exposed throughout the series, which is a shame.

*Overall, it is good but it could have been better. What would make most people remember a good anime is a good ending so one must create a big impact towards this line like the tragic ending in Death Note, Code Geass and Kuroshitsuji or a heart warming happily ever after moment in Junjou Romantica and Ouran Highschool Host Club. This anime ended simply but it did not bring that much of an impact that would tear your heart to shreds although it does not necessarily mean it ended horribly. The strongest points of this anime are its psychological and mysterious thrilling beginning and its philosophical concepts that would twist your mind.
