About the STORY
Setting aside the unique animation, the story is kind of the typical one. It’s a fictional historical story about chanbara (sword fighting). The love story part is nicely done but the comedy part is quite far-fetched. It’s a 12 episode long series but every episode is almost an hour long. And it’s episodic. There are lots and lots of talking. And when I say “lots” as in 80% of the series is all talking and that’s even during action scenes. The action part is the most or rather the only interesting and exciting part of the story.

About the CHARACTERS
Most of the characters are interesting with their own uniqueness but not as interesting as how every character looks. Shichika is the typical all strength yet so dense protagonist. He’s weirdness and lack of emotions is because of how he was brought up. That’s why he also doesn’t know how to express his feelings to Togame. He doesn’t even feel anything when killing someone. In a way, he can be interesting because of that. At the beginning he can be so morbid at times and so emotionless but as the series progresses and with the help of Togame, he learns what it means to have a human soul. Togame is also the typical “tsundere” female character who always gets mad in order to hide her true feelings and embarrassment. Though she’s weak physically, she’s really strong when it comes to resolve and really smart. The protagonists can be considered a unique yet still sweet couple. Through-out the series they finally act like a normal couple like sleeping together, playing with each other’s hair while talking, bickering with the most trivial things, and they are quite intimate with each other. As the series progresses both experience major character developments as they learn lots of things together.

About the ANIMATION
The biggest difference or uniqueness of this series form the others is the amazing artworks. From animation to character designs to fight scenes; everything can be considered as amazing artworks. In every episode there are colors everywhere which is so fun to watch. Even the characters are so colorful from head to toe. It’s like watching a beautiful moving painting. The character designs are not your typical ones. From the characters themselves to the outfits; it’s all different in a nice way. It’s really refreshing and fun to see all colors and designs on the outfits particularly the protagonists’ outfits. It is so cool. And with all honesty, the different character designs are more interesting and to look forward than the character themselves. The fight scenes are really nicely done that can even compare with some of the mainstay action animes of today. Though, that being said it’s only for a very short time as majority of the episodes are spent in talking. You could say that it’s not really an action-packed series. But the ending episode is the most amazing and coolest fight scene in the series.

About the ENJOYMENT
The “all talking” rather than something really happening is definitely making the series less interesting and exciting. It can be really boring when it’s like that because before you know it, the episode is almost done with just all talking between characters. It has the best animation and most amazing artworks but that’s that. It is interesting enough but it’s lacking when it comes to certain excitement that would make you want to look forward the next episode. But still, I will admit that I want to save it to add to my collection but the ending is not really for me which is really a shame because I really want to save it because of the amazing artworks but unfortunately that’s not enough.
