Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

This series is one of my personal favorites to be honest. It takes a middle-school boy who is good at nothing-and turns him into a strong talented individual. I believe one of the values this show teaches us is that everyone has a talent, even if it appears we are no good.

When I first started this show, I was sort of puzzled. An infant calling himself a "hitman" shows up to teach this boy "no-good Tsuna" how to be a top mafioso? Now I'm not going to lie, but this was a huge confusion for me. My first thought was that this was a young children's show because of how the characters acted and sounded-especially the infant "Reborn". For the first 20 episodes or so, it was goofy, it was childish, and it was unappealing. Watching over the show again, I still think that. Even later on, it's still goofy, but at least it doesn't go overboard, and manages to keep it's cool. It's a fact that the show has a weak start and doesn't attract the audience as it should as this series is more of a supernatural action show rather than comedy. It bolsters both comedy and action and combines it to try and grab a greater audience, although I feel that most of the audience is here for the action(maybe i'm wrong, just my beliefs). That being said, I feel it does a great job of introducing new characters and their personalities into the fray. Tsuna makes some friends, and so the show begins.

One thing that threw me off at beginning was the character of Hibari Kyoya. Supposedly a tough bad boy who beats up on the weak to teach them a lesson. He rules the entire school through fear. When his character gets introduced into the anime, I get the wrong feeling about him. Usually, the good guys in an anime are there to protect the weak and defeat the strong, and he doesn't make an exception for Tsuna. This would generally imply that he's a bad guy, but it didn't quite pan out as expected(not to spoil anything). That being said, his personality is excellent and hard to find among anime good guys. He is one of a kind and made a fantastic addition to this anime.

I have nothing but good things to say about this anime. The one thing that prevented me from giving it a 10 for enjoyment was how some of the episodes waste themselves giving a recap of previous ones. This also includes the first five minutes excluding the opening song,(one-fifth of the show) recapping what happened last time on the show. I feel this is an excuse to shorten the length a little bit. If people have missed previous episodes, that is their own fault. That is what re-runs are for.

This show throws the audience for a loop when the major action starts. I found myself watching 30 episodes a day. Supernatural powers, intense battle scenes with amazing twists, and maturing characters spring up out of nowhere and turn this into a struggle of survival. I guarantee this show will knock your socks off, even if you're not wearing socks. The soundtrack is great, some of the best anime music ever made. The art is beautiful, perfect for an anime of this caliber. This show teaches us the values of friendship and to work hard and do our best so we can live life to the fullest. I highly recommend this anime to anyone who is a fan of superpowers/action.
