The first thing which struck my mind when I saw the title "Welcome to NHK" was the japanese tv channel "NHK". I was taken by surprise by this anime indeed. It's the first time I encountered this problem called "Hikkikomori", I made a research and after knowing the background of a hikkikomori, I gave this anime a thorough observance. Let's proceed to the review.

The story is pretty amazing, Welcome to N.H.K. is the story of a hikkikomori (a hikkikomori is a person who doesn't work, study and is afraid to go outside due to the fact that a hikkikomori is often referred to as someone who is afraid to socialize with others.) named Satou, our main protagonist. Welcome to NHK showcases the uprising problem of Japan's society today and that is being a hikkikomori. People who are lonely, an otaku who is rejected socially at school, people who sold their souls to MMORPG, victims of Multi-level marketing strategy, You name it! It's all here.

Each and every episode sends off the depressing aura, delivered in a well humurous manner. There are times that you will laugh about Satou with him being a hikkikomori but of course there also comes the time wherein you'd feel Satou's loneliness, pain and sufferring, striving to escape the chains of being a hikkikomori.

Gonzo's art on this one is pretty impressive, the animation is portrayed accurately delivered on it's simplest form. Inevitably, there are some times wherein the characters are drawn in an awkward way however this does not hinder you from watching it. If you've been a fan of Gonzo before, you better check this one out, personally I think this is the best animation they did ever.

The music is way too cool. The OP and ED themes were awesome. The BGM's are easy to get used to and you would notice that they have been used repeatedly but these limited tracks makes their way onto a scene in a perfectly timed matter. Musically, the tracks used in this anime is high above passable.

As the story progresses, different characters with different problems appear. I loved all of the characters for they are very interesting. Simillar to your typical slice of life characters which circles around Satou's life. Watch these characters succeed, or fail perhaps.

I enjoyed this anime, well who would not? It's packed with tons of funny and cool moments. If you're a hikkikomori yourself or if even you have the characteristics of being a hikkikomori, you should give this anime a watch, it's a must! Or if you think you would enjoy watching an anime character who fails over and over, watching Welcome to NHK is a must! Or else you'll be fined 1,000,000 yen :3
